Hello Hivemind, I'd like to enlist your help please - I need to find a coach.

Next year I will be running the London Marathon (I am not a runner at present) and I would like to use this to boost my fitness and have benefits flow through to the bike.

I have made massive progress on the bike this year by working with a coach - but the approach has been high volume, low intensity. It got me to a good place, but meant I neglected the gym to fit in the hours and hours of riding that were prescribed. This is not a good thing for me.

Do you know of anyone who could help me balance running, riding and gym work (to support the bike and running)? I'm prepared to pay and work hard, but I need someone who is a bit more modern to use high intensity and sweet spot sessions to cut down time and volume, rather than just grinding it out endlessly.

You might want to look for a coach that specialises in triathlons?  Single discipline coaches won't be insured to provide coaching in other disciplines they are not qualified in so might not be able to specify your gym routine say.

Maybe just a different cycle coach would help.  A good coach will tailor your training to suit and should still have an appreciation of the progressive overload required to build fitness in a particular sport.  Some people swear by low intensity high volume but it's a little dated and, as you suggest, often not suitable for people with other commitments.

Don't know what level you are at but the gym work might detract from time better spent running or riding.

Slightly different, you could look to join your local running club, memberships are dirt cheap, and you could then either meet or get recommended a running coach, you might even find the club does training based sessions too, the club could have people doing london also and you could copy/join there training.

Marathon training will take over your week/life , but when running multi sport is encouraged such as cycling or swimming, you may find a point though when you stop focusing on cycling to focus more on running.
