Hi chaps,

I had a creak in the pivots on my 5 spot, had Loco service the shock as it sounded to be coming from there. But putting it back together the creak and clicking is still there.

So I stripped down the frame, cleaned and greased all pivots and bushes. When I put it all back together I noticed the DW link pivot, nearest the bottom shock mount, didn't press up against the frame fully when torqued up.

Essentially, there is a very tiny gap, where it looks like the link bolt isn't torqued up enough, and if you move the wheel laterally to the front triangle you can feel and see play.

Is this likely to be a worn bushing, or the hex pivot shaft out of tolerance?

It looks a bit like the pivot shaft is too long, or the bushes are too narrow. I'm tempted to swap the bushes over from each side to see if that moves the problem.

I've emailed Greg at Turner to get his opinion too.

Any help appreciated,

Ricks

Sounds like the pivot shaft is too long. Turner are very likely to see you right.

One other thing to check, and i have seen this happen. If there is grease between the bolts down the center of the bearing tube it cannot be compressed. So when the bolts go tight there is still play in between frame and plates.

North country boy :

Can you explain a bit further as to what you mean? I could well have grease somewhere I shouldn't.

Cheers

Hi ricks if there is grease up the threaded part of the bearing tube, the bolts cant go tight against the seats. They hydraulic lock against the grease. Remove one or both bolts and see if there is grease in the bore between them.

might get some pics if i get time.

Cheers NCB,

I'll get on it tonight, I've dabbed grease onto the end of the threads, as I have a habit of doing this on all my bolts so they don't seize.

So you're saying whip the bolts out out of the DW-Link, clean them up, then clean the threads inside the Dw-Link, and reassemble - right?

Cheers

Fixed!

So followed your advice, NCB. I cleaned the bolt, and the threads then re torqued it up. Still the same play, tried again with slackening the other end of the pivot plate off, and tightening the problem bolt up. Still no joy.

Then, I decided to switch the bolts over and see what happened. Everything tightened up.

The tolerance in one bolt must be slightly off, and the pivot on one aide must be very sensitive to the length

Just glad it was a simple fix, as the Spot is superb.

Cheers everyone.
