Saint (1st gen) bought in circa 2004/2005. I ran these for 4yrs then stuffed them in a box until last week when I refitted them.

There was noticeable play in the non-driveside arm. So I fitted another BB on the driveside BB as I assumed the early Saint crank has a longer spindle/axle?

Anyway - still a tiny bit of play. Looking at the end of the spindle there isn't much room (non basically) to add another spacer in otherwise it wont grip?

I am missing a O ring in the non driveside arm- is this the reason why there is play?

Looking at this thread I may be missing this/it may be critical?

What is the length of your bottom bracket when "bare"? a standard HT2 should fit 68mm to 73mm with the use of shims. maybe your "Niche" new Turner frame doesn't like them 😯 Buy some XTR 970's. They will fit!! But if they don't i will buy them off you for a mahooosive discount 😆 OT, how was the ride on Sunday?

Hora, where is this play? Is the BB axle moving around in the plastic bearing top hat or is the LH crank arm moving on the axle?
If you assemble the cranks outside of the BB is there still play once the pinch bolts are tightened up?

I had this on XT crank set, it was worn out splines on the axle / non drive-side interface. It was new crank time

How long did you have the new bb before the play started? As above, it could be the splines are worn - probably on the crank arm. This is especially true if you ride right foot forward when standing on the pedals.

Allegedly this is why HT2 has a pinch bolt design instead.

Ah! Could it also be there is a plastic 'sleeve' that normally sits in the gap where the pinch bolts pinch across? Comparing to the ht2 this is 'missing'. I'm guessing if the mk1 version had it (lost) then it aids tension/torque creation in the pinch bolts?

Sorry for my scruffy descriptive power 🙂

Nope that bit of plastic is there purely to ensure the arm is on the axle enough. There's a little pin that engages in a small hole in the axle. If the plastic bit won't sit flush with crankarm then the arm isn't on properly.
