Morning all
Has anyone got or used the Zastrugi Dark Sky 400? On paper it looks a good deal although I'm aware of subjective/speculative temperature ratings etc. Can't seem to find any reviews online so appreciate any feedback or alternatives for spring to autumn overnighters and possibly a week long August adventure.
Would I buy an unknown sleeping bag from Planet X?
That'll be a firm no.
Would I buy an unknown sleeping bag from Planet X?
Not for that asking price, from planet x, when Alpkit already exist:
Of course when it's inevitably discounted by 60%+ then maybe take a gamble? but certainly never pay the initial asking price for anything from PX/OO...
I looked at this range when they were discounted a few weeks ago... the length looked a bit short at 190cm, is this the person? or the bag?
I bought a Berghaus from Blacks, good deals online
did you buy one?
is it too hot for uk summer?
they do a darksky 200 too, and i dont need a bag for winter
For £80? How bad can it be? Cheap isn't always nasty. I have well over 100 nights in my Argos Pro Action 1 tent which cost something like £30. It has stood up to high winds and heavy rain. Aside from being heavier than a top brand no problems.
Just take the comfort ratings (and possibly the weight of the bag overall) with a large pinch of salt.
I've just ordered one (the 400?) It was reduced even further. I meant to buy the cheaper one, but accidentally got the more expensive one! 😅
Genuinely hope it's OK as am bikepacking with it early July 😳😳
I got a down bag from Decathlon for a similar price, it's pretty good and you can go and look at it.
So my sleeping bag has just arrived. It weighs 960g inc stuff sack, which is about right for PX website which states 800g exc stuff sack. The seams are all neat and tight, am actually looking forward to using it!
How small can it be packed?
I got a couple of Aegismax bags from Aliexpress over time. One was their Ultralight and the other their Nano 2. The ultralight packs silly small but is relatively short with no hood. Good for warmer weather. The Nano 2 is bigger and has more fill so suits colder temps. Neither are a winter bag,but were cheap and do tbe job well enough for me. Looks to be sold on Amazon now, with a few reviews on Youtube.

Whilst they're done to a standard methodology, they're very subjective in the real world. Personally I find most bags I can get a good nights sleep at the middle "limit" figure, other people still find that way too hot, others start shivering well before even the comfort rating. Rab or Sierra Designs 1C should still feel like an alpkit or planet-x 1C. They might just be lighter, or loft quicker, or have better hoods.
I’ve just ordered a Dawnflare 300 for £19.99. It’ll be used for the odd spring/summer/autumn in a bivvy bag under a basha (I’m an instructor with the Army Cadets). For £20 quid it’s worth a punt. I’ll let you know my thoughts.
My bag is 32cm long and 16cm in diameter, still happy with it, although acid test comes in July

I received my sleeping bag today… it’s not bad. It’s well made from what I can tell. It has a full length YKK zip with baffle, small internal and external zip pockets, internal draw cord and it’s just about long enough for me at 181cm. Not sure I’d want to be too much taller.
I can’t help but feel it’s a little thin for a three season bag, obviously the proof is actually sleeping in it. For £20 if it’s not warm enough for sticking in a bivvy bag it’ll do for the kids going to a sleep over.
