So, the XLS is the first carbon bike ive owned and despite being dubious initially about the flex in the frame, ive been really happy with the bike. Until now.

Over time, there was some play in the forks so naturally i reset the stem to tighten everything up. I don't feel i over did anything as if i did, id feel the stiffness in the steering... Anyway, ive been tightening up the stem over some years and ive realized why. The part of the frame where the headset sits seems to be sinking into the head tube. Today it got to the point where the headset / head tube just totally collapsed and the headset fell into the headtube.

Obviosuly, this would not happen with a metal frame but also, i have not heard / seen may instances of this via google searches. Is there a chance this could be a defect with the frame? I thougt there would be something ridgid in place stopping this from happening.

Any thoughts / advice would be appreciated!

Yes there is. Theres also a chance its not been assembled correctly (e.g. no cups) or that it's damage. First port of call would be px and see what they say.

Hopefully you weren't riding at the time and no harm done just the bike is borked.

Ouch, never seen that before or even considered it could happen.

Looks like a manufacturing defect to me.

That’s not right. Either a defect or wrongly assembled, I reckon.

Fixable (and you can change your HA 🙂 ).

Obviosuly, this would not happen with a metal frame

I've seen steel frames with partial crumpling of the head tube because of over enthusiastic headset installation.

Drop me an email with sales order number details and stuff and I’ll look into this.

Offt. I'm going with manufacturing defect being most likely there. (There may be another reason off course but on the balance of images alone...)

Who assembled the bike in the first place? Ie have you ever replaced the headset, or taken the front end apart and forgotten some vital component during reassembly? Although I'm not sure what you could possibly do that would cause that!

Looking into this - bike was sold in 2014 when I wasn't with the company but seeing what we can do to resolve.

Look on the bright side, now you can fit a tapered steerer form and headset. How very modern.

Is 5 years good for a rave bike frame?
