Seems like a good idea to me:

Link here

There are many riders who can't even tighten a headset, so this could help to get some valuable knowledge while actually building their own new bike.
A good opportunity to use PX's workshop, their tools and get 10% off the final build, with some coffee and have a good bike tech natter at the same time.

Anyone tempted?

It's a 4 hour drive, so I'd be doing it for the fun rather than the 10% off.

I'm waiting for the Big Dog to come out before I decide what hardtail I'm going to buy. If it's the one, then maybe...

Looks a laugh but with kids and shifts difficult to make it work, I'd settle for a 10percent discount code though 😉

Fully agree that it wont work for everyone but what an excellent idea.
I could see my pick list getting very expensive, very quickly.
The Force groupset sitting next to a Rival groupset would get me in a financial mess real quick.

Like others have said, planet x is like another galaxy away from here.

I bet their mechanics thought it was a great idea as well. Personally I can’t see it ending well unless the purchaser has a good idea about building a bike beforehand!

Sounds like good fun and something a bit different. PX do seem to be putting a bit of effort in again.

But gutted I've already got my full Monty already! If this had cropped up a couple of weeks ago I probably would've gone for it

Sounds great to me. If i was getting a new planet x bike and lived within a reasonable drive i would jump at this. I reckon it would be great craic. I wonder how much stuff folk will leave with that they never planned on buying....a bit like going to ikea market place and leaving with £100 of tat you never knew you needed.

I suspect they will want you to upgrade bits when you pick your equipment and the picker/mechanic might get a % of the extra sale a bit like kwick fit.

These tyres are slow and heavy, these tyres are only £10 more each tyre........

That’s kinda the point of selling different quality goods and buying better products though Damascus.

This 🙂 we've sometimes let customers 'join in' when were quiet enough but you probably get 1 bike built for 3 without a customer around. That's all fun and games until you get a massive backlog.

No mention of a vegetarian alternative to the pork pie. I’m out.

The train costs between £15 and £55 from here, then it's about a 100 mile ride home. Sounds like a nice way to get a new bike.

I've only bought a few bits and pieces from Planet X, and only brand name stuff. I really enjoy their marketing - usually I unsubscribe from commercial emails, but I actually look forward to theirs.

How is their own brand gear? Their bike prices are amazing, are the bikes as good as they seem? And how about sunglasses? There are some nice looking Carnac glasses at good prices at the moment - does anybody have a pair? Are they good alternatives to high priced glasses, or are they cheap and tatty?

All info gratefully received.

Nice way to spend a day. If you need a new bike and live up north 🙂

I'd have considered it. I've got a PX Pro Carbon seems more than good enough for me and was as cheap as chips, frame only, and one of the Carnac road lids, which was such good value I've just ordered another! As has been said, they seem to have started to get their act back together which is good for all of us in my book.
