I am building up a planet x london road frame and need a headset. Im used to mtb headsets but road ones are confusing me.
Can anyone recomend a budget option that is suitable as the one px recommend is £50?
Thanks.

When I built mine over 3 years ago I used on of these and it's still going strong. Not a lot of help as they're out of stock bit might help on sizing presuming the frame is the same. Brant from here might be able to help...

Yeah, I imagine the brand X is very similar if not the same as the lifeline one since they're both wiggle own brands if I'm not mistaken

That one doesn't use the correct lower bearing. You need the 45 degree taper seat and that one is square.

Ideally it would also have a 51.8 diameter lower bearing whereas a lot usually have 52. Due to PX tolerances thigh, most folk find the 52 diameter bearings on the lifeline model worked.

Yep I think I've got a BX or lifeline one also about 3 years old now, nothing spectacular but does the job...

I built my London Road up about 3500 miles ago with the Wiggle Lifeline headset. I was never really happy with it (the headset), and had an intermittent cracking noise from the bike somewhere.

When the bearings were worn about 500 miles ago, I replaced the headset for the correct FSA headset - I found it on ebay for £24 (FSA No.42-ACB ORBIT C-40 ACB), as I couldn't justify paying the going rate from Planet-X at the time (about £50, then frameset only cost me £150!)

I had a job getting the old lifeline headset out (involving a hairdryer, flat bladed screwdriver and a hammer!), the bike has been riding noticeably better with the FSA headset. Cracking noise has gone, and it's had a fair bit of abuse in the last 500 miles!
