It's from two weeks ago but documents have taken time to process/be updated.

its a pre-pack. planet x ltd went into administration and Baj bought the assets and brand, staff transferred over too.

https://www.rothbiz.co.uk/2023/06/news-8115-jobs-saved-as-rotherham-bike.html

there are two other planet x related businesses that still seem to be active - planet x retail and planet x EOT trustees.

Anyone know if they are still making new frames or just selling the stock?

its a pre-pack.

Now it depends on which bits the new owners really want. TBH, I wouldn't bet against them gutting it and walking away in <12 months.

So do we reckon it’s safe to order stuff? Seems like it.

If they had something I wanted I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from them. I would use PayPal so I had some protection though

I placed an order with Planet X about 10 days ago, I was genuinely surprised how quickly I received it. I think it took 2 days. I had assumed lower staffing levels and therefore a bit of a wait.

Got a shock pump last week for £10 - is exactly the same as the one that came with Marzocchi forks a few years back but with "Jobsworth" logo. Nice.

very speedy
Yeah, I've seen her go, she is rapid! 😉

The daily emails offering bikes at massive discounts have stopped and they're all back to full price. Discounts of stock of clothing, tools etc seem to be continuing though - I guess they're overstocked on a lot of that?

PAYDAY20

20% off the entire site till Monday apparently. Smells a bit more 'fire-saley' to me. Pay with Paypal or a Credit Card and go for it!

Just ordered the bar bag for a two day Pennine Bridleway ride. May not use the bag again, but it looks better than anything else out there for the price. Only needs to keep my civvy clothes nice and dry. Also two bottle cages as the ones on MrsF's and daughter's bikes have snapped.

So that 20% off, it seemingly applies to anything on the site, no matter what existing discounts are already applied.

e.g. this Chorus Disc groupset!

£1,199.99 -> £959.99 for a Chorus Disc groupset: That's well below anyone elses listed price currently, So if you're a Campag fan That might be worth it...

The recent update to Companies House is an interesting read.

It basically lists all of their debt to suppliers and the customers who have credit left over on their accounts.

Interesting. Stock £3m value but stated as realisable 10% of that per the then administrator. £750k due to Sram. Waltly £150k.

Rotherham council £50k.
DPD & FedEx taking a bath.
Shimano not listed so either payment in advance or grey market sourcing.
One that raised a wry smile...£32k bonus accrual for trevor parker - ha!

I'm down as a creditor, at least that explains why I got a letter from the administrators, it's pennies though not worth the stamp cost. If I had a hundred pound order unfulfilled I'd want to know but this seems a little pointless. I did laugh at 'Please Select' being a creditor clearly their data isn't that clean!

We've been a regular customer of PX and I'm listed on that document as being owed £400 ? The thing is, we aren't owed anything as far as I'm aware, all our orders have been fulfilled and we have nothing on credit with them either, nor any outstanding refunds. Can anyone shed some light on it please ? TIA

Where are you seeing this exactly? I got one of those letters as well. Had a bike on credit from them a couple of years ago, paid off in full. I ain't there must be thousands of people in that boat?

If you follow the link to the companies house posted by cycle92 you can view all the creditors listed in alphabetical order

Just wondering if it's slightly sloppy bookkeeping; you placed the order and paid for it, but the dispatched stock isn't accounted for on their system, or cleared off a ledger, so shows as owing subsequently after delivery. That could then show up to the administrator as being outstanding to you as a creditor.
Could be something entirely different though.

So I checked and I am on the list for being owed £5.

I ordered some of their excellent tights (not bibs, just thin stretchy tights for those winter rides). Of course being planet x the ones I ordered and received were different. I pointed this out and got an email saying they’d refund £5 off my next order. A couple years later I haven’t ordered so I guess I’m still on their database somewhere being owed this amount.

Just saw the ad for the new PX Aero bike, the E130. It's not quite the bargain basement pricing we're used to but I've gotta say it does look pretty nice ... Clean lines and subtle (for PX) paint scheme ..

You can't have a sale unless you start the price high! How long before it's got a grand off?

Zilog6128 yeah but that law’s not administered generally. I chatted to a pal, with whom I spent 4 years working in Consumer Protection oop North, about this.
He stayed on there - told me they just don’t have the resources to enforce against fake “sales”. Look at DFS he said. Right!

Shimano being specced after a few years of SRAM and the occasional Campy, but £5.5K for a Dura Ace Di2 Planet X bike is certainly different. Guess it needs to be full whack ahead of the inevitable sale.

Site looks like it has been written GPchat. I am sure I read an article on here a fe weeks ago about a online magazine that had the same treatment.

For example...

Frame bags are ideal for keeping elements of your Bikepacking equipment that you don't need frequent access to as you travel.

Grammar aside, there aren't any spelling mistakes - so it's an improvement over the old site at least.

Good spot, it really does.

I'd imagine this new site was in the pipeline before the administration and purchase.

Assuming they've not just stuck a new CSS on the old site?

they've been working on it a while (way before admin happened) as they appeared to be using the https://on-one-bikes.co.uk/ site as a test bed.

IMO the on one site works much better from a colour/graphics point of view.  Makes me feel less sick than PX site and easier on the eyes.

Usage detail - once you click through product options on a product page you can't change them - you need to refresh the page.  Bit carp.

Also... whats the obsession with websites these days having to click 'show more' to expand the product description.  Just show me the whole description up front...

the 15% off email is  from Winlong Garments Ltd and is only if you sign up to the new website, I'm assuming that with all of the reshuffling GDPR means they loose their email list and need to start again.

Have you noticed how road bikes are really poor value compared with mountain bikes?

They are similar priced to Orro - you can pick up a DA Di2 Venturi for just over £5k - even Ribbles are only on Ultegra at that price point !

I presume there was some financial reason why they stopped offering Shimano; presumably the new owners have coughed up enough (guarantees ?) for them to be allowed to order it again ?

If we're into speculation...

I reckon to get forks etc for the PX stuff at a good price they needed px's volume too so the new owners are going to ditch the on-one/mtb side altogether.

Purely a guess though.

The road bike range is hilarious, so many brands/models/spec options still but pricing is typically variable. Actually the MTB range is pretty similar.

I like how (at the minute) there's a big old jump from ~1k for an Apex 1 London Road/Kaffenback straight up to ~£2k for a London Road with Rival 1, or a Pro Carbon with Force 22 (which isn't such a terrible deal perhaps) but nothing in between.

Also interesting that they've not been able to lay their hands on anything Shimano flavoured below Ultegra Di2 (and no MTB parts).

If I had ~£3.5-5.5k specifically to spend on a Road bike with Shimano leccy shifting, there's no way on earth I'd be shopping for a Planet X...

I'm strangely disinterested in their MTBs, I used to like perusing for a bargain HT, just can't be arsed with them now...

Am I missing something, or is a Free Ranger with Rival £1999 whereas with Force it's £1799... isn't that the wrong way around?
