Got an eshot from planet x on Thursday
Gt85 5p a tin.
I follow the link, hit quantity 10 then checkout.
3.99 delivery yodel so I press confirm.
Then as the screen changes I get confirmation with total of £4.04.
Wtf!
So I try it again and the quantity is automatically changed to just one when you click buy. No mention of only 1 per sale.
So I increase the quantity again (this time I'm still in my checkout screen)
Then I get a message that it's 1 tin per sale.
I email customer services straight away asking to cancel.
I also send a message to the help box on screen.
No reply
Today I get the £4.04 tin of **** gt85.
I think it's a really crappy/ scam like thing to do.
I have bought quite a bit from them over the years (even a bike once).
I won't buy anything else from them again.
You've been Planet X'd!
I work for a company with large online sales presence and I know that kind of idea would not even be entertained / come up
Do they simply don't give a toss about their customers?
You could have got a 5p lock to help spread the postage 🙂

Do they simply don’t give a toss about their customers?
You expected to be able to get 10 cans of GT85 for 50p?
There was even a clear disclaimer/clarification at the bottom of the email.

Aaaaah the small print, the favourite of all sketchy sales techniques.
Not that anyone would have scrolled down to the very bottom of the email but why would they? Wasn’t printed 1 only on the website itself.
Letting the order go through and changing the quantity without notice but taking the money anyway then ignoring requests to cancel is a lovely technique, must remember that one.
It’s like Trotters Independant Trading at PX.
sefton
Do they simply don’t give a toss about their customers?
No, is the answer. They give a toss about people who might become a customer, they couldn't give a shit about the people who already are- those guys cause problems like warranty returns which PX just can't be arsed with.
Having said that, and as much as I hate the thieving arseholes, in this case it's definitely a case of sounded too good to be true, no? Seemed an obvious loss-leader interest-gatherer.
Some ninja dispatch going on there to have done it before your please cancel email hits!!
In fairness to PX, the basket updates to qty 1 as soon as you go to the checkout page, not after you've hit buy. The basket qty in the top right even shows the actual number of items in your basket before you go anywhere near the check out page.
'Annoying' the they processed your order quickly before CS got back to you but I think it's one to take on the chin.
If it wasn’t dispatched quickly they’d be a thread on here slating the slow postage!
I’ll stick up for them here, I got the email and it mentions one per order.
Frustrating that you couldn’t cancel the order? Yes perhaps but don’t think it’s a big conspiracy or anything shady.
Incidentally what would someone do with ten cans? I’m 36 and think 10 would be more than I need for the rest of my life!
There needs to be some buyer beware going on. If it looks too good to be true then it probably is.
The idea is that it makes you buy extra stuff which you pay postage for and then you add the deal of the day (1 of) for 5p which is a bargain......... if you needed the stuff in your basket.
I recently bought some bargain tyres from px and bulked out my order with some buffs for a quid each. Depending on px price strategy of the day the buffs range from £1 to £3.99 each.
When it comes to px its always worth doing your homework to make sure you get the best price.
I expect they are doing some experimenting to see what works and what doesn't.
I think Gt85 is on offer in Halford reduced from £5 to £4 so you paid £0.04 too much for it. 😁
Personally I think a better offer would be a free can of Gt85 with every purchase over £x or what ever thing they are trying to get rid off. I always like my bag of free haribo, hmmmmm haribo
Slippery.
Should have checked the Small print eh🙄
Its a cheap slippery trick imo. One I sadly fell for.
Got to ask yourself if it was clear in the eshot would people follow the link to get a £4 tin of gt85? I'd guess not.
I'd expect to be causous with small eBay shops etc but planet x have been around years (bought my first rd bike from them over 8 years ago).
Buyers beware....yeah,I will be in future. That's what this has taught me.
Yeah. You should have checked it. I put an asterisk next to it and made the small print hilarious.
It’s a tribute to some of the stupidest small print ever. So this is turning all quite meta really.
I noticed that the other day when they had tacx bottles for 5p, tried to buy 6 thinking it might be some kind of loss leader, went to check out, it defaulted back to 1, so I though bollix and moved on.
...plenty of other places to buy bikes and stuff from.
GOOD LUCK.
Just trawled through my deleted items to find the email and yes, there’s a massive * in huge text next to the 5p offer (and a photo of Bob Monkhouse). It’s so clearly written I am surprised anyone could have missed it.
If people have gripes on previous issues that’s fair enough but on this there isn’t anything shady.
Thought it was quite funny. Never expected to buy multiple bottles for 5p
Thought it was quite funny. Never expected to buy multiple bottles for 5p
Nah, but 30p would be awsumz
It's simply an order bulking item, say you have basket contents totalling £99.96 and just need to nudge it up to the free postage value, then it makes sense to buy one and offset the postage
It's quite helpful under those circumstances in fact but limited to one off per customer precisely to prevent the whole lot being hoovered up by bargain hunters.
Quite why you expect them to flog you a lifetime supply of wd40 at a loss is beyond me, you can get a tin of wd40 or similar penetrating oils from any old pound shop and they will do exactly the same*...
*(i.e. Ruin a perfectly good chain when you douse the drivetrain in it)
Even I worked out it was one per customer and didn’t even buy any, and I’m not very good at reading.
I just assumed it was some kind of wacky gimmick and left it well alone.
Plus I still have about 8 tins from when my local Aldi was doing then for 19p each.
😀
Surely you’d think ‘10 Tins for 50p??’ ‘No way!’ ‘I’ll check the not so small print’ ‘Otherwise I’ll look like a right twit!’
If it's too good to be true...

It's asterixed and underlined, it's hardly a hidden Herrod clause* for public wifi.

They've been doing flash sales and really cheap stuff for weeks now, flogging whole bikes etc.
I got several pairs of ace socks for next to bugger all, and added a gt85 to my most recent order of a base layer and cassette brush.
I'm happy you weren't able to snaffle 10 cans for yourself
Dispite what I read from time to time I've always had good dealing with PX spanning about 10years.
As embarrassing as it might be the above was simply my experience. I wasn't aware of order bulking and yes maybe I was blinded by greed.
If it works for you guys cool
Good luck with your socks.
I love the On-One socks ! 🙂
I love the On-One socks !
Me too, i have orange splat socks on today actually.
…plenty of other places to buy bikes and stuff from.
GOOD LUCK.
they've probably packed up and gone home as it's not worth it now they've lost your business. I mean think how many baked beans they could have bought with your 5p!

50p. He wanted 10 of 'em, remember... 😀

'Ere OP ain't wrong though - I can't see anywhere on the page where it says you can't do bulk buys. Except when you add to your basket. That is quite crap TBH.
Not wrong, just greedy
Just saw the mail.
Nice.
Thanks to this thread, I obtained a full size padded 2 wheel wheelbag, a multitool, 2 sets of gear cables and 2 pairs of socks - all for £18. I'm happy, cheers disgruntled Gt85 buyer.
disgruntled Gt85 buyer.
Potentially one of the best Forum user names ever.
My orange splat socks have turned up today. Unfortunately they are the skull and cross bones ones.
Im defiantly not a pirate.
First time I have had wrong stuff from them, last weeks order was fine. Im now a victim of the phone directing to the live chat that is constantly not available.
Some one should have to walk the plank for this.
I can answer your query caller. We ran out of splat socks, so rather than send you nothing for your 4p we sent you some skull & crossbones ones, which we were sure you wouldn't mind as they were so stupidly cheap and you know, they're just socks.
Thanks for answering my call. Since you didn't respond I ordered the orange splat ones again last night from the advert email that you sent after I messaged you. Just to give you the benefit of the doubt that it may have been a one off and you can now send the correct ones.
I have put the scull and cross bones ones in the Barnsley Hospice charity bag in the hope that a local pirate may find a use for them.
New offer here for anyone who wants some

Im defiantly not a pirate
Defiantly - in a manner that shows open resistance or bold disobedience. Which sounds rather pirate-like to me. So arrrrrggghhh you a pirate or not?
Since you didn’t respond
My apologies. 😆
Looks like I was lying about the quantity of certain varieties socks left in our bargain bin... oops
More of a menace which is why the red and black stripe ones in the previous weeks order were right up my street.
My orange splat socks have arrived today, thanks to all for sorting it out.

Made me chuckle.
