Remember the good old days when they had a full stock range in every size?  They were good times.

These days, their website is like a bad version of an online TX Maxx.

That was about 10 years ago wasn't it? 😉

I havent looked there in years as the prices weren't great and there was no certainty they had general parts in stock.

Similar - had a quick glance last week for some new gravel tyres and figured they'd likely have some bargains. Nope, pretty much nothing at all. Quite like some of their ti frames though...

Dave started a new republic for the deals similar to the old PlanetX. 😉

Which REALLY is like an online version of a TX Maxx store!

I ummed and ahhed too long on the Olson frames and they've gone back up in price, and more so I think.  I can't decide if I'm annoyed on missing out on a bargain Ti frame or relieved I didn't spend £370 starting a project I really don't need!

Love Banana Industries but their flat rate £6 shipping fee stings a bit.

yeah, but it sort of means you don’t do the whole “order padding” thing to get over a certain threshold value, and you also start to evaluate if you really need all those little “bargains” once you factor in that additional postage cost…

I like perusing the various 10-20quid tyres they have, and before long I have a basket up over £200 to rationalise down.

I suppose they’re also avoiding the Chiggle model of “free postage” which as an overhead must have contributed to their eventual demise.

Their £6 flat fee makes total business sense and if I was them I would do the same. They are clearly canny operators. Still won't stop me having moan before I place an order.

To be fair on the postage St John St. Cycles is similar.  It's fine as far as I am concerned.

Being out of stock of decent stuff is more a deterrent.  There does seem to be a more general problem with low stock dotted about even previously good online retailers.

Their helmets are very good value for money and good quality .

Yea, I think £6 is about the sweet spot for postage. Obviously reflects the cost of actually posting a small packet, and if you are ordering £100+ it sort of pales into insignificance.

I ordered 10 rolls of the garish Selle Italia Bar tape last time, that's my Ti bike given a splash of color for the next few years! And the IRC tyres are doing a good job of being mid-range tyres on my commuter, and 4 of the cheap-ish OEM Selle Italia Saddles after my fancy ti-carbon one cracked and I couldn't justify the replacement cost when I could put the same saddles on every bike for less for a minor downgrade!

Banana Industries is well worth a visit! It’s tucked away in an old building with no sign to help you. Inside it’s full of marine salvage and other strange things with no obvious signs of bike stuff
