Evening all,

I take my boys riding most weekends.  We usually go to Swinley, where they're perfectly happy trundling round the Blue & Red, but it would be nice to try something different for a change!  Any ideas?

We've done Bedgebury too, but based on their adverse reaction to the muddiness there (children of today are such a disappointment!), I'll hold off introducing them to the Surrey Hills until it has come as close to drying out as it ever does!

I've also taken the eldest round the blue at QECP, which we might well revisit.

Being located in Epsom, Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Hampshire & Berks preferable to North of the river, but happy to travel further if it's worthwhile.

Meon Valley Trail, perhaps followed by Old Winchester Hill at the northern end?

If they're anything like mine then I'd suggest an orphanage.

Friston Forest near Eastbourne has some good trails and there is a bit of seaside action too.

Just take them round QECP again - there are new trails, it's OK in the wet and you can have a race up/down Butser Hill.

I used to ride that every weekend with a mate to get out onto the Surrey Hills back when I were a teen, unless it's been massively improved it'll be a horrible muddy mess until about May...

Friston +1 - combined with a loop around part of SDW can be good fun. When dry.

Nice tea shops in Alfriston & pop down to see the cliffs . 🙂

Nest time you are at Swinley, why not take a detour into Crowthorne woods.  Have a look at the Strava heat map to get an idea of where the trails are and then start exploring.

Cheers all.  I think another try round QECP might be in order.

Crowthorne could also be a plan.  How does it compare to the Swinley red in terms of difficulty?

Did Hadleigh Park for the first time last weekend, further than Bedgebury but similar time to get there due to no crappy country roads! Suspect that might be the same for you, too. Rides great in the wet due to the surface (no mud!), has quite cool pump tracks & skills area plus the black features make it a bit more interesting than Bedgebury IMO. I think it’s cheaper for parking as well even after you factor in the Dartford crossing!

Can't recall there being anything that difficult in there.  The trails change as old ones get worn out and Gorrick build new ones for races.  The challenge at a section kown as the corkscrew was to get round without putting your foot down.

Nwmlarge (or anyone else who knows PORC), how does it compare to Swinley?

I’m thinking of taking my boys tomorrow, but am wondering if it will be beyond them?

A couple of awesome trails / small jumps at Friston that are perfect for kids that age and easy to session.

Bike Park 417 is southern if they can handle Friston and want a step up has pump track and a few fun features for younger kids that will keep them amused for half a day, leaving time for travel and lunch. Last time I was there I saw a kid that must of been around 4 or 5 going over tabletops, making some of the older folks on full suss carbon look rather silly 🙂
