I'm heading off from Sheffield tomorrow down towards the Alps for a 4 week trip. I'm looking for reccomendations of decent places to ride on the journey from Calais to the mountains. Not fussed on which route, happy to go in to Switzerland, down through France etc.

Places on my current list, La Bresse or Metebief (or both) as bike parks are easier to find. Any one got any great spots to share?

Cheers

You’d be quite close to the Jura mountains there?

Yes if I get down to La Bresse or Metebief I would. Hoping for some specific gems from folks who've tried spots.

When I was on holiday in central France a few years back I found mention of a place on here, Les Monts de Guéret.

I would hesitate to say it's worth a detour, it had a few DH runs which were a challenge to me on my 2012 120mm full sus XC bike, and the usual French VTT trails looping around. I didn't ride there much as it was a family holiday and the trails were a bit of a drive away from where we were staying.

I've been to a few nice riding spots in NE France but it's not a patch on the Alps. Just get the driving done and spend longer there.

Lac blanc and la bresse are both en route ish if you're skipping the toll roads. Great parks with lots of fun riding, better than most of the morzone area but far fewer trails so maybe 2 days in each tops

Best thing we did on route to the Alps was stop over in an idyllic rural French village and just soak up the ambiance of their wonderful country living.

I spent a day in La Bresse Bike Park on the way back from Morzine a few weeks ago.  Small, but a really fun park.  Just one chair lift up, and 9 or 10 excellent runs back down.  Some pretty terrifying features too!

The Jura mountains are stunning, and there are some VTT trails nearby , but to be honest I was pretty knackered after Morzine and the Bike Park, plus it was 30 odd degrees so didn't bother and went for a hike instead.

Thanks for ideas folks. I stopped at La Bresse and metabief in the end. Toll free drive down and both fun to ride. Spoiled a little by poor weather but would definitely do both again.
