Time to have a go at doing my Giant Anthem Maestro pivot bearings.

I have some spare washers, bolts and thin threaded bar to make a bearing extractor and then plan on pressing them back in using a small vice and the old bearings to push the back in.
The extract should I use a washer that is the exact outer diameter to extract eg. bearing is 22mm OD, should I get a 21mm washer or try a 22mm ? Also shoule you grease the outside of new bearings you press in ?

I found the following info:

"To replace all the bearings on a Giant Anthem Maestro suspension you need the following bearings:

U-Link chainstay pivot: ID=15mm OD=28mm width=7mm, bearing number 6902 (2 off required)

Lower shock eyelet: 15/24 w=5 bearing nr 6802 (4 off)

Rock arm frame pivot: 10/22 w=6 bearing nr 6900 (2 off)

Rock arm seat stay pivot: 10/19 w=7 bearing nr 63800 (2 off)"

Should I be looking for washers - 27mm, 23mm,21mm,18mm ?

What I use is sockets of various sizes to press the bearings in. The important thing is to only press an the race you are pushing in. ie if the outer race is the pressed fit do press the bearing on the inner race. A bit of grease never hurt especially to stop the bearing grabbing on the aluminum. I have had some that are on the loose side when fitting. if this is the case a small amount of bearing fit or Loctite will help. Ensure you keep everything square and parallel when pressing the bearing in. If it kicks over remove it and start again.

With regard to the sizes you are looking for I would try to get as near to the diameter as possible as the bearings are very thin wall and you risk crushing the seals.

One thing I do to try and prolong the life of the bearings is to take a seal out carefully and pack it with grease. This is to minimize the water ingress which will happed no matter how you try and stop it. I also get stainless bearings if I can to cut down on the corrosion.

Good luck

Interested in people techniques here too. Would be very grateful is someone could post up a couple of pictures of how they go about pressing out and then in the bearings.

Just did my trance yesterday! I bought the RRP bearing press/pull kits from CRC and some m8 rod, washers and nuts for wickes. I tried to do one with sockets and it messed the paint up on the frame.

Expensive for what they are but made it sooo easy and once you've changed a few sets they will have paid for themselves
