Afternoon all, any one got any experience if upgrading a Specialized Pitch?

I have a 2010 model, which I love, love , love and am loathed to change it. I can afford to put some new Pikes on it, and am also considering a CCDB Air on the rear. To my mind, this would make it a whole "new" bike. Switching to 650b or 29'er at this stage doesn't appeal. As this fork/shock upgrade is likely to cost a fair bit, plus I could add an XT groupset and new wheels, would I get better value by simply buying a new bike instead?

Thanks in advance...

Are new pikes available with 1 1/8th steerers? If so then crack on. Pitches are ace.

Better off buying a new bike than changing everything

Upgrade it but don't spend a fortune as you would benefit from a new frame with the now standard tapered headtube, 142mm rear and 27.5/29 wheel compatibility eventually.

Pretty sure new Pikes only come in tapered steerer.

What forks do you currently have? Speak to a suspension specialist like Loco, see if the forks and shocks can be tuned or upgraded? Might be more cost effective?

Wheels are always a good place to spend money on too. What do you currently have? You could either get a lighter yet also strong pair or just a lighter set of wheels for the days you're taking it easy and just getting in the miles and put the other more durable pair when you're giving the bike a good hammering.

I'm not too bothered about fancy groupsets they all seem to work well as far as I am concerned. I have one bike with Deore and LX stuff and one bike with XT. Both of them change gear just as slick when i push a shift lever. Yes the XT feels nicer but on a limited budget I'd rather spend it on wheels or forks.

I put 150mm revelations, roval traversees, an RP23 and sram x9 on mine IIRC. It was nice, and I always liked the geometry, but I would buy something new these days and get the benefits of seven or eight years' development.

Revs or Sektors only I'm afraid. New Pikes aren't available in straight steerer.

I'd buy a Pitch frame if they had a tapered headtube as I love them, but I have a Specialized Camber with straight headtube and it sucks not being able to get hold of decent new forks for it.

I ran mine almost as a mini DH bike. Lyriks, coil rear shock, fat rims. It was ace for hooning around on:

However, although I regularly used it for all day epics, it wasn't too great for it and I would be beat by the end of a 30 mile ride. Came into its own on uplift days, or at Aston hIll, the alps, pushing up snowdon and hooning down the rangers path.

If I still had one I'd find some 2nd hand Marzocchi RC2ti forks, a CCDB air, some stans flows tubeless and put some 1x10 gearing on with an expansion ring. You could hit the sweet spot then between DH ragger and a pedal around all day ride.

Pitchs were ace and I was gutted when Spesh stopped making them.

ditto.. I bought this frame for the alps. Whacked a coil shock, coil lyriks, tubeless with 2.5 minion and a narrow wide chainring

ace downhill
