Been looking at them for a while now. Love the look, nice and simple and lots of travel. We'll specced too. Just wondered what they ride like and the for for long, longish and longer? I'm 5'8 by the way.
What are they like weight wise too? I like a bike I can chuck about l, especially with a hardtail.

Cheers in advance

Can’t help with riding one but I was between a moxie and a bfemax, went with the bfemax in the end as it was cheaper, available sooner and had the longer chainstays that I should have got on my Marino
Looks like a hell of a bike though and I’ve only heard good things. There are a few people who have them on the steel is real pinkbike thread

I've got a MK3 Moxie. Got it in October so only really ridden it in the winter so far but the full suss has barely been out the shed since I got the Moxie. I'm 5'6" and have the "longish". If I was your height I'd probably go for the long and I suspect that's what they'd recommend but you shouldn't take my word for it. And anyway it depends what you want in terms of reach.

I'm not good with the bike industry adjectives and I haven't tried many current hardrails anyway, but I do like mine a lot. I run it on 27.5 35mm rims and 2.6 tyres. So sort of "poor man's plus". And a 150mm travel 29er Pike. My wheels are Newmen, so light, and it's singlespeed. 165 cranks. I get quite a few pedal strikes and so I think longer cranks than these on 27.5s would be a bad idea. The BB is exceptionally low.

Previous hardtail was a (26) Cotic Soul, so the Moxie doesn't have the feel of a lightweight steel frame like that but it doesn't feel "dead" either by any means. Frame weight I recall quoted at about 2.65kg but I never weighed mine. My whole bike isn't overly heavy because £££wheels and no gear gubbins.

The paint is lovely. Mine's blue but the other colours are more exciting.

I like the sliding dropouts for singlespeed. Good burly fore/aft screw but as is I think often the case for sliding dropouts you need a torque on the main bolts that I'm not convinced a 5mm Allen key head can take repeatedly, so I changed these for some 6mm ones.

There's a fairly active owner group on Facebook which would be worth joining now so folk who know much more than me can answer your questions. Someone from Pipedream is on there pretty often I think.

i've got a mk3 in Longer, running it 29er with 160mm forks. Bought it to use as a winter bike but, as above, full sus consigned to the shed. its utterly magic,. Does not ride anything like a hardtail of old, its stiff and direct where needed, but also feels really compliant, long wheelbases help with hardtails in that respect i find.
I've set some of my fastest downhill times on some pretty sketchy trails, but equally it climbs like a goat. Don't be fooled by the long reach, the longer is 510mm, but to sit on it feels quite compact, smaller than my Slash which was a 480mm reach.

i've got the vivid pink one and the colour is insane. definitely prepare for being asked about it a LOT

Moxie

Beautifully made and rapidly becoming my favourite bike i've ever owned.

6'2" running it with a 170mm dropper and a 40mm stem (have tried 30 and 50mm as well) got a good 10-12cm of non dropper seatpost out about the top of the seattube. could easily run a 210, just don't feel the need.

Where are you based?

Can you remember if you could do any adjustments? Things like headset colours or if you could choose 27+? Maybe a tyre choice?

headset colour is personal choice. as is seat clamp (comes with neither if buying a frame)

Chainstay length is adjustable (i run mine in the longest setting just so the wheel can't move anywhere)

as for tyres, depends where you ride. I regularly swap between Maxxis Shorty, DHF or Michelin Wild Enduro on the front and prefer a faster rolling rear tyre like an Ardent of Michelin Force Enduro.

i've not run 27.5+ on this, but haven't really enjoyed it on other bikes (probably due to not spending much time on it to work out how it works best)

I run 2.6 27.5s on mine. Very close in size to 2.8s so pretty much 27.5+. They used to market the frame as being good for 27.5, 27.5+ or 29. Looks now like they say 29 or 27.5+.

Anyway, depends what BB height you're comfortable with I guess, and fork and crank size. I don't think I'd want any greater risk of pedal strikes than I have already with 165 cranks, a 29er/150 fork and my 27.5x2.6 tyres. My chainstay length is about 10mm longer than minimum, but I use the sliders to take up singlespeed slack so position is driven by that. Have no desire to go longer but then my front end is the shortest size.

I haven't tried 29er wheels yet. Seems to be there are folk who prefer either way. At my height the move from 26 to 27.5 got wheels occasionally hitting my arse on all the 27.5 bikes I ride, where they didn't before, plus my trails are tight and twisty, so I guess I probably won't prefer 29 on the back.

My tyres are 2.6 Maxxis DHF and Dissector. I like what the width/volume does on wide rims.

Don't know what component swaps they'll do on a full build, mine was frame only.

Just tightening up my chain on my singlespeed and am agreeing with this - @luket where did you get the sturdier bolts? Also does anyone know how many Nm they should be tightened to? Still creaking a bit at 12Nm.

@chiefgrooveguru I recall the spec is around 25Nm. The aftermarket bolts I have are I think titanium (I'd prefer steel I guess) and I think were bought from someone on the pipedream Facebook group. However, I don't use Facebook much. I will pm you if I find any useful info.

Thanks! It seems to be v hard to find Allen head M6 with a wide flanged head which are 6mm hex - 4 or 5mm is the norm. Wondering if some thick stainless steel washers and then a socket cap head is a better solution. If it wasn’t for trailside fixes I’d go to a torx or spanner type / socket hex.
