Does anybody else that's still receiving notifications for the thread happen to be 5'7 and in which case which size did you go for and how do you find it???

I was able to try a friends ladies medium which is similar size to the men's small but couldn't get the saddle back quite far enough although I believe the men's has a slightly slacker angle which may make a bit of difference, I also tried the men's medium in the shop which felt a bit of a stretch but that may be as I haven't ridden drop bars since I was a kid.

I'm 30" inseam, if anyone's around that height be really interested in hearing which you went with and if you needed any other adjustments like set back saddle or changing the stem.

@witterings I'm 5'9 with 30" inseam and I went with a small but with a 90mm stem. I find it very comfortable but I don't like being too stretched out as I'm not the world's most supple person.

@jameso Do you have visibility of when the 2019 Arkose range will be in store or be able to share specification details ?

I have money to spend but I'm currently waiting on seeing what the new colours and spec is before deciding whether to buy 2018 or 2019 model.

I have fitted the new tyres, I rode them on the club run Sunday and a couple of hours tonight and am very please with them. Grip well in the wet (tonight was a good test for that!!) and are very comfortable yet roll well.

My 2018 Arkose 3 has rattling internal cables. Any suggestions to silence the little buggers?

I think can only be in the downtube.

@sumsar - thanks!

Yes, they are the 42s I struggled to find them and ended up getting them from an eBay seller.

Thanks for everyone's help on sizing ..... I went to the Guildford store toady as they had a medium in stock and saw Tom who does the bike fitting and he thinks the small would be better for me just a shame they don't have them in stock at the moment but I'd rather wait and get the right bike for the longer term.

Cracking guy though ... was really helpful and could have just tried to sell me something they had but instead gave professional advice so will go back there because of that and will also book a bike fit with him after I've had it a few weeks ... his advice rather than the day I buy it as you've had time to work out what doesn't feel quite right.

Roll on delivery although as I can't have it now awfully tempting to hold off and see the 2019 colours bring.

@karlp - do you have any slack in the cables that may need tightening? Mine is completely silent (no rattles).

With my norco' internal cables the trick is to put a cable tie snug against the hol at either end of the concealment and use these to take slack out of the cable

Eskay : big thanks....is it possible to put some pictures up with spacing from tire to fork and in the rear from the seattube behind the bottom bracket...

I'm dreaming of this bike with a set of conti race king 2.0 and I almost think it's possible ( really helpful with the pictures)

I reckon you could get 2" tyres on, there is about 15mm either side between the forks. Here you go:

@sumsar81 Hi you asked me to post tyre clearance pics a while ago and I completely forgot - apologies. The above post reminded me.
Pinnacle Arkose 2017, tyres are Maxxis Race TT 2.0" (51mm).
Front fork has about 13mm clearance.
Rear stays have about 6/7mm.

Hi

I thank you both so much. Really helpfull pictures and info for me sitting overseas in Denmark.....the bike with the maxxis TT tires is exactly what I think of looking for a gravel bike...so I'm pretty sure Evans bikes will ship a bike to Jutland in October.

Cheers and peace

If anyone's looking to sell a small 2nd hand Arkose 3 I may be interested ... I was ideally looking for a new one but it may be a while before they appear in the shops so thought I'd look as used as well.

I have posted in the wanted section as well but had no response and thought the audience here may be a bit more "focused" so hope nobody minds.

Hi @jameso

Following your assistance up thread, I've now got my Dolomite frame and have recently built it up using bits of another bike and TRP Spyres.

However, I'm having issues with mudguard clearance in the fork - it's advertised as having clearance for 28mm tyres with mudguards, but I can't make SKS Bluemels fit with the Continental GP4 Seasons I have fitted. There might be space if I drop to 25mm, but for my dedicated winter bike I want to use the 28s.

Are there any other guards I should be looking at which would work with this frame?

Thanks very much.

Ben

Any Arkose X owners in?

Doing some window shopping for a £1000 (bike to work) CX bike that I can also adapt as winter road bike.

Contemplating a Cinelli Zydeco but it would need some money thrown at it just to get it down to the (manufacturer's...) stated weight for the Arkose X

Anyone got one and attempted to strip it down a bit/save some weight? I'd be racing it so sort of keen to see what I could achieve, lighter tyres, maybe even lighter brakes (I have my own, perverse reasons to want to run some Spyres anyway, and that would mean fitting some purty TRP levers as well).

Any pics out there?

Ta

Hello! I've just ordered an arkose 3. The women's version is down to £1012 and i've got something in the garage i can trade in to get another £100 off. I'm planning to run it with road tyres (28s?) and mudguards for now - any recommendations?

Anyone know how long the spokes are on the drive side of the rear wheel of a 2015 Arkose 3, or which model the hub is?

yeah I know I could measure it the next time I am near the bike but I keep forgetting to do that.

<div class="bbp-author-role">I have 42mm road tyres on mine, I have fitted SKS Bluemels. The only issue I had was that the supplied bolt was not long enough for the front mudguard because of the fat fork. I had to get hold of a (I think) 70mm cap screw.</div>

I've been using these:

https://www.evanscycles.com/bontrager-ncs-road-mudguard-set-700c-x-18-35c-EV138150

which have been rock solid and fitted the 32ish mm tyres I've got on fine. Although I see they don't have the wider ones in stock there.

Anyone know what the weight of the bare stock wheels are on this year's Arkose 3?

I want to upgrade mine for something lighter but would like to know the weight of the originals.

I built up an arkose for a mate with cheap parts and I was surprised how light it was. Less than my caad x which has nicer parts.

Much more tyre clearance as well. Looked like a nice bike

Any information on the new models you can share with us yet James? I’ve got a 2018 Arkose 4 on back order, but won’t be available until Dec. Be good to see how 2019 models compare, hopefully 650b option?

Hi Dave, there will be 650B options, the Arkose X 2019 included. Most are still on 700C, there's a range split between road-biased and some dirt-biased Arkoses for next year.

@jameso

Hi, the dates for delivery for the 2018 Arkoses have been pushed back a couple of times recently .... I'm guessing it's possibly to do with their recent re-funding.

Do you have any insight whether that they're definitely going to arrive and if so a worst case timescale or is it dependent upon the re-structuring and they may not get delivered at all???

So what I do know - dates are based on fork supply delay and that's come up fairly recently ad prompted dates changes. Same for the MY19 ETA.

And it's true that supply isn't moving as freely as usual in the short term due to Evan's change of ownership process. That's due to be concluded really soon. There's no question of product not arriving and we're ready to process all that's needed. The ETA dates - Arkoses are our priority, we have a good number of pre-sales on them and stock that can be sold upon arrival is the priority for the business. They're also assembled in Europe so by air-freighting a qty of forks from Asia to match pre-orders plus some shop floor stock we can get the bikes within a few days delivery away. I'll update here as soon as I have something more accurate.

Excellent, thanks James, any idea when more information will be released?

MY18 last drop is due in, then we'll get info on MY19 to staff and follow that with something here and elsewhere.

MY19 bikes are new but don't make the MY18 bikes redundant with any wild new geometry or 29x2.3 spec etc, they just update a proven frame with a few new details and compatibility features and offer road or dirt-biased build options, much as you could do to the current bike with tyre and gearing changes.

If you do a 650b option with a 46/30 crank, I may quietly cry and think of what might have been.

I know it's too early to say, but any idea of how the change of ownership of Evans will affect Pinnacle?

I guess it's unlikely to be spun off as an individual brand...

Best of luck to Jameso (is it time to take the leap and go independent? You've got the following on here!)

Haven't looked in on this thread in a while, good to see it's still going strong.  I converted my Arkose SS to 1x11 over the summer.  Sram Apex 1x chainring and RD, Sunrace mx8 cassette and Sram bar end shifter.  Pretty pleased with it...

Too early to have those discussions but you'd have to look at the growth, value to the company and proliferation of bikes visible around town and see the potential to carry on as we are. The success has come from fitting the range to the retailer and product credibility. One of those aspects may shift a little in time but not the other. And thanks for the support : )

Anyone got any idea what size of tyres I could fit on a 2013 Arkose if I run a 650b wheel instead of 700c?

47mms fit those older forks OK from a couple I've seen set up that way. Clearance isn't huge but it's better at the fork than the 2015-16 fork. Borrow a wheel to check first if you can?

After posting about my SS to 1x11 conversion arlier, I have another question re: tyre width.  A couple of years ago I upgraded the stock Nano's with the TCS version to try tubeless.  However I've noted quite a bit of rub on the inside of the fork, and measuring the 40mm tyres shows they actually come up wider at 43mm.  Looking at the pics, should I be worried?  I also note the wheel isn't central, with 4mm clearance on the left, and only 3mm to the right (where the worse rub has occurred)

Hard to say from a pic. There's a lot of carbon in that area as it's where the blades and crown moulds overlap. Nano wire beads were on the limit of what fitted that fork though, on 19mm rims I think.

Thanks for the reply Jameso.  I think only the paint and maybe 0.5mm of material has so far been eroded.  Shame about the tyres as the TCS Nano's on the slightly wider rims had been fab.  So now looking out for slightly smaller tubeless gravel tyres - anyone got any recommendations?  37mm Riddlers might be an option.  Might move over to Challenge Gravel Grinders (38mm) in the short term as have a lightly used pair, but would rather stay with tubeless given I've invested in the tech and like the way they ride...

Managed to have a good wipeout on my 2018 Arkose 3 last Friday on the commute to work as I hit a road wide patch of black ice at 20mph. Only damage to the bike was a bent front wheel - my body managed to protect the bike fairly well. So, I need a new front rim. I've handed the bike into my LBS, but they're saying they can't get hold of a like for like rim. Is there anywhere I can get a matching rim and get them to build up the wheel for me? Really can't face getting the bus to work much longer and it's only been a day commuting without the bike!

What are the differences in geometry between the Pyrolite and the Arkose .... is the Pyrolite closer to a road bike and not as slack in geometry as the Arkose (or the other way round) and will there be a 105 version later in the year??

^ Geo sheets are on the Evans site, but in short yes, the Pyrolite is more road bike-like in how it handles than the Arkose. Not what a roadie would call racy, but lighter-steering on a steep road climb than an Arkose for example. Still handles tracks and basic byways just fine on the bigger tyres though. No plans to upgrade the spec just yet sorry. It's a sub-£1000 / RTW kind of bike that would be small volume about £1000.

Delivery dates now pushed back AGAIN ... that's at least the 3rd time and now not due until end of January so having it in time for Xmas is out the window  🙁

Had been holding off to get one but as I no longer have any faith in the quoted delivery dates will probably look at alternatives instead.

Is it not that the delivery dates are being pushed back because of increased orders?

Similar delivery times to the Grail AL, have to wait till February for some models.

Loving the look of that Pyrolite!

@jameso  I just went to swap my 42T chainring onto my 2015 Arkose 2 only to find it no longer clears the chainstay.  I know it used to, so have to assume when I changed the BB (to a 68mm Ultegra) after Tour Aotearoa I should have put spacers in, or used a mountain BB.  At least that's what my much more knowledgeable friends are suggesting.  I was wrong to think it'd need road spacing and they're right (again), aren't they?

I changed the chainring on my 2015 arkose 2 and James mentioned that 40t is the biggest that would fit, off the shelf without a mod anyway. I put a 40t SS surly job on

I used to run the 42T on it quite happily.  It was close, but it cleared.  Now it doesn't.  But I've changed the BB since it did, which is why I'm suspecting I should have used spacers...

🙂 yep - sort of, an MTB BB or some spacers will fix it. But tbh I'm not sure now what the spec of the 2015 BB was in terms of cup width. I could find out but it may not be an 'asap' thing.

Think the Grail AL's that are being released are the 2019 .... not the 2018 models like the Arkose so a whole years difference in models.

I think it's the fact the date's kept changing that's been annoying as I would have bought something else a couple of months ago if I had of known rather than waiting for it to be moved back again.

The Grail Al's look nice though so cheers for that 🙂

Hi Ben, thought I needed to get the bearings list from one of the guys here, sorry for delay ... But the Arkose 2 2015 had a c+c hub set.

6potbelly, while I had the spec sheet open I checked the chainset, it was a road spec but it seems the BB cup isn't the same size as a Shimano. If the Shimano road BB is narrower then a spacer each side will do the trick.

Ta, James.  No need to look it up, I'll put an XT BB in.  Looking at it after posting I've realised the chainline would benefit from the chainring being brought out that 2.5mm too.  I'm sure now I was wrong to fit a 68mm without spacers.

Looking at fitting mudguards to my 2016 Arkose 2. The SKS Bluemels come in 42 and 45mm ... I’m running 700x35 tyres ... what size would you recommend?

The mounts are of course higher up on the fork ... any tips on fitting? Pictures even?

Thanks!

I have been a member and reader of STW for some time but not sure i have ever posted.

I have a 2017 Arkose 4 in the stealth bomber paint scheme with everything murdered out in black.

I have recently stuck it on a set of 650B wheels and 2.0 tyres, masses of clearance still and muddy fun for the winter.

Wheels are ebay cheapies off a Whyte hardtail, cassette is the new HG700 11s 11-34 to fit the 10s hubs on the whyte wheels.

Discs are new, tyres are nearly new maxxis beavers.

Love the look of it now and didn't even have to faff resetting indexing! Shimano reckon on 32t max on the long cage derailleur but it looks just fine with the 34t. Depending on how i get on with i may even try 40t at some point. I think the new Shimano road mechs with the MTB style design can accomodate a larer rear sprocket

This bike on its 700C rims and stock tyres has done everything so far, couple of offroad triathlons, commuting to work on the road, training with my other half on her roadbike to even out the pace, hardpack trail riding, I did SUPBIKERUN on it last year and was stacks quicker than most of the MTBs.

1. PSA: Evans sale now on, Arkoses included: 3 = £1K ; 4 = £1080.

2. Took my two-week old Medium Arkose 3 back to Evans because I wsn't sure that the size was right and the Edinburgh shop now had a large in stock I could test. Came away with the large no questions asked.

3. Idly mentioned the price had dropped £150 since I bought it. Was given a voucher for £150 on the spot.

Very impressed with Evans Edinburgh.

Just discovered this thread and it has been so helpful so thanks all. Thinking about purchasing an Arkose frame to build up using parts from my current bike (Canyon Endurace). Nothing wrong with the bike just need something I can fit more tyre in!
@simonrh is that frame gloss? Hard to tell from the picture and ideally want a gloss frame

Just thought I’d mention I’d been running my Arkose 4 for 6 months and done 1000 miles on it and it’s been bloomin’ great. Little bit of heel rub on the paint on the nds stay (I wear 5:10s and use flats), but looks great still.

If you’re considering a do-it-all bike then you can’t go far wrong with one. Mine’s done some small jumps and also hit 55mph on the road. Not at the same time! Pretty versatile!
