I've been ploughing through PB adverts for the last few weeks looking for a small FS bike or frame for my daughter.
I'm new on there and was prepared for all the mad teenagers selling badly tweaked bikes but I wasn't prepared for the silence!
I've sent messages and commented on photos for about 6 or 7 bikes and frames and haven't had a single reply to any of them...is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
I have to admit to typing full sentences with pretty good grammar and spelling throughout; could that be the problem?
.
They have probably sold the bike, not bothered updating the advert and not checked their mail.
Last time I bought a bike through there there was a few people who responded after a month to say the bike had sold 2 months previously.
I'd try the more recently updated adverts first.
Are you commenting on the photos or sending actual PM's?
I've not had any issues, I messaged someone last night and had a response this morning despite them being offshore!
Odd,op, your post is just blank, can't see your post?
Who said that?
That’s weird Poop, I can see it. Can’t see peekay’s reply though.
I’ve sent pms and commented on photos. 🤷♂️
I’ve had plenty of non-response from PB adverts I don’t bother now. Very frustrating to see something that’s just what you want, at a fair price, yet the seller just blanks you. Worst of all is one reply, normally an answer to a simple question, then again... the silence.
It's par for the course. You do get really good sellers too but their bikes tend not to hang around long. Then you get the "I don't know it's my mates bike" or "it does look like a dent in the tube in the picture but it's boxed up now so I can't check". Or dead silence.
You can check to see if the seller has read your message. The message will have an envelope next to it until it's been read.
You can also reveal the sellers phone number on some ads. You may have more success text messaging or calling.
I sent a message to a seller on 22nd February asking if a helmet he was advertising was still for sale. He replied on 10th July to say it was!
Many people seem to advertise on PB and then not bother to check for enquiries or close the ad if the item sells.
I get emails when I get a message, although I've only had 2 enquiries on pinkbike about a bike I have for sale...
If available I tend to send a text message initially and then go from there.
I tend not to respond to "will you ship' messages on 'local pickup only' items, and almost never repsond to members with no seller history, comments or pictures.
I never respond to PS4 trades or lowballs.
However, you seem to be asking the right and genuine questions, I'd go out of my way to correspond you you as a genuine buyer.
I've given selling (and buying) a go on there since the classifieds page here changed. So far I've not succeeded in selling anything, so gave up and listed on eBay where the stuff (a frame and forks, sold separately) went for the same or more than my asking price on PB.the remaining thing I have on PB has been listed for a while now. I did get into extended back and forth someone who worked for a bike shop not a million mile from me. They haggled down to a reasonable price, I threw in some other bits he was looking for and we agreed he'd come over to pick it up the next day.
No show by midday, so I texted him and he told me he'd decided to buy a rear shock instead. Thanks, chap. STW classifieds has always been good to me, and I'd be buying and selling (and paying for it) if it would only work a teeny bit better. I'm much rather give STW a percentage of my sale than eBay, to be honest. I probably should pay for one of those P things, shouldn't I?
Had this last year whist trying to buy a 3k Santa Cruz on there-Complete radio silence to my initial enquiry for about a month so carried on looking elsewhere, eventually found a similar bike so ended up buying that one instead, got home from purchasing it only to find a response from original guy replying to my month-old message asking if I was still interested in his bike.....
I sell most of my kit on there now stw changed the classifieds. Try to reply quickly even just to say no. Did blank a guy who insisted I should post abroad. Didn't think he was dodgy just prefer pick up for even small items due to PayPal con men.
Also I always update to mark sold as it makes me look like a good seller.
I sell a reasonable amount on PinkBike & always respond within hours to questions. You can filter out the time wasters pretty quickly. I also happen to have a very nice, small FS frame up for sale at the moment 🙂
