anyone on here got a pinion equipped bike, or indeed had a ride on one.

That gearbox probably ok for on road/ cycle path stuff, know of a few that have broken on MTBs.
bike will be used for everything, work, touring and a bit of offroad pootling. nothing too hard offroad.
