Have ‘we’ done the recent sexist Pinarello adverts?

It begs the question doesn’t it. The marketeers can’t be that ‘kin thick. Can they? Surely it’s an engineered pr exercise to promote!
I suspect their marketing dept has done their job, researched their target market and demographic, have done this deliberately knowing that the storm won't affect their target market and will pass and not affect the sales at all. They'll make a killing. They're probably selling to WAGs (or HABs) of super rich people who really don't give a toss about the sexist hullabaloo and will happily part with the many thousands of pounds/Euro's of their partners money to ride with the crowd on that bike while holidaying off the coast of Monaco in their super yacht. They're hardly going to rock up on a Decathlon special because they are offended at the advertising campaign are they? They'll be donned head to toe in the latest Rapha gear, be sporting the very latest Oakley's etc.
It is a ridiculous PR own goal for them, but I do wonder if they might have a point, silly Italian* casual sexism aside.
This is the perfect application for ebikes. Obviously not for everyone, and obviously there are slow men who need the support and many women who don’t. But being able to ride and hang out with a significantly slower or faster companion is a good thing. It doesn’t have to be about slow WAGs, but, well, it often is...
(Dons flameproof hat, gets ready for loads of stories about super fit wives who will do battle for household KOM status)
*The irony of my stereotyping a whole country’s views is not lost on me.
It’s a bit odd, all advertising is aimed at stereotypes of particular demographics. An advertising expert once told me, if I don’t understand an advert I am not the target market. I wonder how many people knew they were offering an ebike before this storm. Probably increased their coverage (and sales) more than a much more elegant advert might have.
It's why I bought a Giant e-bike for Mrs BigJohn and it's turned out to be a great success.
Never let the truth get in the way of a professionally offended rentaquote.

It's the assumption or implication that the female casual cyclist wants the e-bike to keep up with the male serious cyclist.
That may well be the case for a lot of people, the advert may be a totally innocent attempt at targeting a certain audience.
The problem is that advertising and media in general contains a lot of this subtle bias all over the place. It gets painted as taking offence or getting outraged over nothing, but calling it out is the best way to make brands aware that a lot of people want this to change.
Looks like they have already pulled the ad and posted a retraction [url=
Either clever marketing to kick up a storm and draw attention to their product or a rather impressive faux pas...
Everybody is missing the real issue here - what brand of bike has Chris Froome been riding since 2013?
