In the process of funding my new buy and have pretty much settled on the bike I'm going for,What I'm not 100% yet on is do i go with the Lyrics or pikes,On the build they are pretty much same price but will i really notice the difference between the two,I ride anything from natural trails, trail centres, uplifts and some XC so I'm very varied in what i ride,

or do i do with the Yari's which have the older style MoCo damper and maybe get a better wheel set .My mate swears by his Yari's and I've ridden Pikes for over two years so i know how good they are,

Thanks for any help

I think the Lyriks are significantly better than Pikes.

Is it for a reasonably burly bike?

Pikes are perfectly capable, and more suitable for what you're after, I would go for them

I had pike 160mm rct3 , now have lyrik 170mm rct3.

The lyrik feels superior, not sure why, but it does. It feels less spiky, more smooth.

Bigger negative chamber in the Lyrik innit? (you can apparently duplicate that to some extent by modifying the bottom out bumper therefore increasing airspace, but I haven't done this myself so don't take that as a recommendation or fact.

TBH there's not that much weight difference, 100-150g I think depending on variant, that's not nothing but it's a small price to pay if the fork works better for you.

Pike (latest ones anyway) are pretty good, it comes down to weight v stiffness.

In Fox speak Pikes are 34's, Lyriks are 36's.

I bought some Yari's based on the fact you could buy Charger dampers for £120 so I thought I could build a Lyrik for less the cost of buying one, you can't be I don't feel short changed, my Yari's are pretty awesome bar a weird clunking sound, which I'm told is common on all Yaris Pikes and Lyriks. I'll get it fixed one day.

Not quite sure I quite get your point. In terms of travel, there might be some rough equivalence, but Pikes (and Yari's) and Lyriks all use 35mm stanchions so should be pretty much of a muchness in terms of stiffness. If anything, using a longer but same diameter stanchion ought to make the Lyriks a wee bit flexier?

At 160mm or less, for general mixed duties, i'd fit Pikes.

Once over 160mm, i'd move to Lyriks.

The performance isn't a world apart ime, with the lyriks only noticeably better when using their longer travel capabilities.

Nope, 35mm external diameter yes, internal diameter is different – more material to make them stiffer hence why Pike internals won't fit inside the Yari/Lyrik chassis as I found out too late.

Lowers are massively different again for stiffness.

Lyrik/Yari forks are stiffer than Pikes, that's the point of them - there is a lot of cross-over in the travel lengths between the models.

Nah, not really, that's only one dimension and doesn't take into account construction, arches, etc. Compare a Fox 32 and Revelation frinstance and it's night and day

My 170mm Lyriks are so much better than my Pikes, track better (stiffer) more effective damping and feel more sensitive due to the -ve air chamber being bigger but that only affects the first part of the travel. For the few extra gramsnI'd go for the Lyriks anytime over the Pikes.

Fit the Fast Hi/Lo damper and MRP ramp control and you've got a Fox 36 beater 🙂

For what should retail at £1300 for that lot, should bloody well hope so too!

I have both, lyriks 'sit up' in their travel more, feel far more supportive and yet still nice on small bumps. Pikes feel a little divey in comparison, reminds me of stepping up from revs to pikes tbh.

In traditional "reccomend what you have"
Don't know what pikes or lyriks cost but have a look at MRP stage forks
I've just got a set and they are absolutely brilliant.

Have had Pikes (160mm) and Lyriks (170mm) on the front of my Reign.
-Lyriks are stiffer (crown & lowers both have more material)
-Lyriks ride a higher in the travel and are more sensitive

In a similar vein of ignoring the question; I've just fitted Marzocchi 350CR 160mm and they're fantastic as well being a bit different - win win 🙂

Old Lyriks with Mission Control were good, but not so sure with the new given they seem to have the same Charger damper as the Pikes. Less controls, seems like a downgrade.

But interested as want something as good as my RC2DH 26" Lyriks but in 650b form, which means the Charger damper version.

I've got Pikes and have to say they are really nice, although feel better with the small bump sensitivity but don't have that soft as a sofa plush feel the old Lyriks have.

You'll want the Yari's then - Lyrik Chassis, MoCo damper (single rebound adjustment only though).

I actually went from RC2DH 26" Lyriks to Yari's they're both very very good.

If you want more later on you can convert them to Lyrik by buying the Lyrik damper for £230 and youve still not spent anymore really

It is IMO, charger damper is a step back in reliability and I found the performance not as good, for me (not because it has less controls, it's just not as good afaic) But otoh, my old coil lyriks weighed about 50% more than the Pikes that tried to replace them and failed. That's quite a big deal and will outweigh (sorry) performance for some people. And for others, they'll just prefer the feel of the Pikes.

I just got a set of factor36s and they're nearly as good as the old Lyrik. We're just spoiled tbh 😆

Just to add that both the Pike and the Yari are significantly altered/improved by the addition of the bottomless tokens.

I run 3 in my 160mm Yari and without them the fork was very prone to diving. I had an OEM Pike on a 2014 (RC) and a 2015 (RCT3) bike and bought a Yari earlier this year. I have to say that I prefer the Yari, but think it has slightly different seals on it to older Pikes to make it more supple off the top.

I debated whether to fork out the extra (!!) for a Lyric but decided to go with the Yari, and have no complaints. It's on a Santa Cruz Bronson and has coped fine with everything from trail to uplift duties.

Winstanleys were the best priced place I found to purchase from.
