Currently running a Pike 454 coil u-turn, love it as a fork, but it's a little weighty - been considering upgrading to something a bit less gnar, but can still take a bit of a beating.

I've come across some good value Fox 32 Talas 140 forks with 15mm QR (2 step, 110 and 140) and was wondering if they'd be a worthy upgrade. I've read quite a bit about Fox's needing quite a bit of additional servicing, and damage to stanchions etc. I also imagine the Fox's won't be as stiff as the Pikes?

Weight wise I'd only be saving about 1lb, so not a massive difference, and the Foxs are air sprung. I did consider moving to a fixed length fork, but I really like the option to be able to switch between the different travel lengths for climbing and decending.

An alternative is to keep the Pikes and upgrade the motion control to the 2012 DNA MC which I can pick up from Loco for £140.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Unfortunately can't comment on your issue, but would be greatful on the whereabouts of the talas, as that is what I'm after?

Decided not to do the Pike MoCo upgrade - but still considering a pair of 15QR Talas - would they be a bit weedy for a BFe using for an all round build (4x, trail centre, light DH, XC)?

Depends what you mean be weedy
the talas are a lighter fork and that means it is not as stiff as the Pike [ though i have QR Talas on a hard tail and Pikes on my FS Orange 5] . my mate uses 15 bolt through Talas without issue on his Orange and he has done Ae downhill runs on them.

In terms of riding they are both as plush as each other and I doubt you will trash them by actually riding them in the manner you suggest beyond wear and tear.
Basically Pike heavier, beefier and less flexy Talas lighter and bit more flexy.
I prefer the Pike for proper Moutnain Biking if I am honest but there is a weight penalty
i would have no issue putting my Talas on the Orange and riding everything on them though if the need arose
NB i have air versions of both

I have QR 15 Vanilla 32s on my Evil and yes, I do find them a bit weedy - you can definitely feel them flexing and squirming a bit when you are really yanking on the bars through rough stuff, and I'm only 10st.

Currently looking for a sensible alternative - needs good damping like the Vanillas, stiffness like Pikes but not to be offensively heavy. Currently I'm thinking RS Revs with a 20mm axle but I really need to have a ride on some.

I went from Pike Air U-Turn to Fox Talas with 15QR. I prefer the Fox...lighter, quicker to adjust the travel on the fly and plusher. The Fox might not have been as stiff but not significantly less stiff imo.

FWIW the Pikes (Air U-Turn) weighed 2155g with Maxle, the Fox (TALAS 100-120-140 RL Open bath) with 15QR weigh 1896g.
