Anyone know what thread size it is, or why I shouldn't bore and tap it to a thread size of my choosing?

I'm heading that way - they ain't under warranty, and I'm struggling to see how that bit can be structural - but I haven't worked out what it is for. And RS didn't put it there for fun did they?

A phone call to TFT maybe - they're always nice guys on the phone.
