I have Pike 351's which do the job fine but I'm wondering how easy it would be to upgrade them to Pike 426? I've just serviced them which was fairly simple so I imagine it would just be a case of sticking in a 426 compression cartridge?

The 351 came off a Pitch. Apparently Specialized wanted to meet a price point so the 351 doesn't have adjustable compression the compression is just preset (I think).

Are the 351s off the comp or the pro? I have some that came off a comp and they had no compression circuit at all I fitted a compression circuit from the pro for that is pretty much a twist to lockout. The compression circuit from the better RS forks can be fitted with no hassle so you can have all the belated and whistles like floodgate etc.

These must have been off a pro then because they do have lockout, not that I'll ever use the lockout. Why didn't they just give them the proper bits in the first place I doubt it would have cost them much extra. Nice forks though.

Anyone know where you can buy the compression innards or do you need to get them out of an old fork?

Can you retro fit the Black box stuff to Pikes? I saw you could buy them from some web sites.

I the 351s are off a Pitch Pro, the damping is identical. You might get adjustable floodgate, but that's about it. Biggest difference will be a different steerer or crown maybe.

I've had 454 Air U Turns and 351 Coil U Turns and there's precious little difference in use

Not worth it, sorry. 🙂

The adjustable floodgate is pretty damned good tho. Pop the BlackBox rebound damper in there and you have a spot on fork.

Not that interested in the remote but the black box on a Pike would be good.

Don't know but you can put the dualflow rebound one on:

Yes you can but, rockshox aftermarket stuff is quite pricey even with discounts 😉
I'd suggest buying 'new' forks as it would probably work out cheaper for the extra performance.

Well if it's not worth upgrading that's a good thing cos It'll save me money.

The thing is with my Pikes is that with my weight of just over 12 stone I'm between spring rates. I have a firm spring in which is about right for most steep downhill or the kind of G's you get through a fast berm but not so good on smaller bumps.

My understanding is that with Pikes more advanced than the 351's I would be able to use the standard lighter spring and dial out any excessive dive with an adjustable compression which the 351 doesn't seem to have, resulting in a faster and more enjoyable ride.

Maybe I'm miss understanding how compression dampening works or maybe the preset compression dampening in my Pike would work just as well with the lighter spring?
