[Closed] Pike Ultimate RC2 settings and performance vs Lyrik RCT3 / Charger 2?

So I’ve bought a 140mm travel Pike Ultimate ready for a hardtail build I’ll be doing when my Marino frame turns up.

In the meantime it’s sitting looking pretty in it’s box and I’m tempted to put it on my FS for a while just to see what it’s like. That’s already 140mm front and it’s running what was a non-boost Yari but has a charger 2 rct3 damper, 2019 debonair air shaft and skf seals (so in essence is a Lyrik bar a slightly different crown as far as I’m aware).

I believe I’m 12 stone 13 (181lbs / 82kgs) - is the Rockshox app close to accurate? Suggesting 91 psi and 9’clocks from slowest rebound - but doesn’t give any baseline compression setting for either lsc or hsc.

Is anyone running the same fork and a similar weight and could share some settings?

Also, how is this Pike likely to perform via the Yari / Lyrik thing I’ve gone? Assuming it’s lighter / not quite as stiff but the damper should be better? Not sure which airshaft will be in it, a 2019 or 2021 debonair version. Cant be bothered to open it up to check tbh!

If the Pike is close performance wise to the Lyrik, I may in time swap it out to save the weight as my trail bike is about 32lbs and it would be nice to drop that a bit (although I’d probably get the Pike legs painted red like my current fork as they look awesome). Other than carbon wheels and maybe a lighter dropper than a Oneup there’s not a huge amount of other weight to lose off it really.

Just a bump to see if anyone has thoughts on this today?

Probably not much help but I've got a Pike (RCT3) with the 2019 (or is it 2020) debonair air spring and it is easily the harshest fork I've ever ridden. Whatever settings I try, over fast chatter (rocks or roots) it feels almost rigid. Great on big hits but truly awful on the smaller stuff. I keep thinking it must be faulty then read a few more comments online and realise this is probably just how they are.

There's not gonna be much difference. The biggest difference will be if the Yari hasn't been serviced for a while, the new lowers oil, fresh seals and greased-up air assy will make the Pike feel more plush.

However, I'd still be cracking the Pike open and giving them a quick lowers service and grease, as they can be inadequate from the factory.

The Charger 2 RCT3 damper and the RC2 dampers are pretty decent. Really only comparable with the Grip2 damper for performance.

The Yari / Lyrik hybrid had a lower service and new airspring in February so not that long ago.

It’s mainly charger 2 rct3 vs charger 2.1
Rc2. I don’t know what airspring is in the Pike Ultimate - would assume a 2019 or 2021 debonair but don’t known which.

Are you sure it doesn’t have wrongly sized bushings with a ton of excess stiction/friction?

Generally Fox are said to be worse at plushness over small chatter but brilliant over big hits (grip2) vs Rockshox which are plusher over small stuff but tend to have less mid stroke support and dive a bit more through their travel.

Maybe you’ve got a build up of pressure in the lowers - might be worth slipping a small zip tie down the inside of the main seals to release any pressure in there. It

I’m not sure of anything to be honest. They’ve always felt that way since new and there are enough threads with others claiming that the6 are harsh on the small stuff to make me think it might just be the way they are. I probably should send them off and get someone who knows what they are doing to take look.

That does help (especially if I let the air out and compress them too), but only for an hour or so then they are back to harsh. Funny thing is that it doesn’t seem to be air from the air spring getting into the lowers as the pressure stays stable for months, so I’m not sure where it comes from. Actually it’s the damper side that seems to have most air trapped in the lowers.

Thats 8 months, ive done mine twice in that time given how easy it is to do.

I put a RC2.1 damper and new air shaft in my 2016 RCT lyriks, totally transformed them.

Hmmm, maybe the Pikes might be worth a go then. I suppose the Lyriks could have another lowers service just to check they’re still ok. I don’t think they’ve had a massively hard time since the new airspring but it’s fairly easy to drop the lowers for a check.
