Hi,

My rebound knob/bolt is leaking oil, it’s had a new crusher washer and torqued but it’s still leaking? Any idea what’s causing this please?
I’ll be popping it back to my service guy in the new year to check it out but I’m curious to see whether anyone else has had similar issues? A quick Google brings up all sorts, one being a leaking damper.

cheers

I've had similar. Because the rebound side bolt is kind of hollow if you got lower leg oil on the rebound shaft (pretty unavoidable when adding the fresh stuff) a bit will seep out, so it's not necessarily leaking from around the crush washer. Clean it off a few times and it should stop if it is this.

Thanks but unfortunately it leaks more after each ride so I think it’s something else.

Ah, ok not so good. Guess it could be damper oil getting out the same way, through the centre of the bolt from the rebound assembly. Fingers crossed nothing terminal.

I thought that a photo of a new rebound knob had been leaked to the public. This thread left me disappointed.

Its still more than likely that its new oil from the lowers thats got in the thread when being serviced.

stripped mine 3-4 times first time it happened...

Had a similar issue on some coil Lyriks several years ago. Spoke to TFT at the time and they said as a quick fix, once you've got the rebound set, just swap the air and the rebound foot nuts round.

Leak stopped immediately and the forks are still going strong. Never bothered looking for the root cause.

I had a similar thing when I serviced my pikes earlier in the year (2020 select Plus).

The crush washer I removed was a 'top hat' looking one. as in it had a raised inner section. The ones I received as part of the service kit are the same thickness across the washer. You only get to see the top hat style if you buy a replacement knob. as seen here: https://cyclinic.com.au/products/rockshox-pike-lyrik-rebound-knob-kit-b1

So I thought maybe I didn't torque the bolt up properly, so replaced it and tightened it up again. it continued to weep fluid. not every ride oddly, but still often. So I resorted to some plumbers ptfe tape on the thread. it seems to have solved the issue.

it may well be just excess coming through the hollow bolt as others have mentioned, but its always that worry of running forks with little oil in.

I also find it odd that the top hat style crush washer I mentioned cant be purchased separately?!

I had it happen in the past after servicing my Lyriks. In the end, like others already suggested, it was me injecting oil in the lowers and some of it going instead into the hollow damper rod. It would then pour into the rebound knob and then leak out of it.

First time it happened got me into a damper oil leak search frenzy but in the end was just a matter of improving my aim when injecting the new oil

the top hat washer is available in the seal kits. Ive got some.

But i soon swapped it for a standard one as you get more crush on it and it seals better
