Following on from my wheel post, any tips on where to source the above forks (I fancy a change from Fox. Am I right?) at a good price? bikediscount.de ??

Many thanks,

Dom

If they still have them, Alltricks where selling the RC's very cheap not long back. Apparently the same damper just without the fancy 3 position switch. I got a pair and in the first 3 rides have been superb.

I shall be getting some when the ones I want are back in stock. Bike-components is another one that's quite cheap. But not as much hype as bike-discount so a bit wary.

I've used bike-discount before and they were great.

Anyone used bike-components?

What size? If it's 26 inch single positions, I was thinking of going back to my Lyriks, I've never really got on with the Pikes, so they could be for sale for the right price.

I got mine from all tricks the other day. 26" 150mm, for about 390ish

Edit: actually, it was probikeshop.com

I'm after 27.5 in 150mm flavour for a new build. I was tempted by Fox 34s, but the Pikes seem to get almost universal praise and at £440 delivered with pump etc. from Germany, represent great value.

Those are the ones I'm after too. Out of stock till 18th on Bike-discount. But definitely a bargain!

Worth the wait, I reckon. Gives enough time for that 0% card to land...

Hibike is roughly the same price but also out of stock.
Definitely worth the wait. New frame not due until the 20th anyway.
What you putting them on?

Blimey is that right, 26" 150mm solo air RCT3 for £380 ?

I wonder if these would work on a 26" Five.

Thing I liked about bike-discount.de was that shipping was free and I could pay with Paypal which offered a better exchange rate than my Santander or Barclays credit card and also had no 2.99% foreign transaction fee so the sterling price given on checkout was what I paid, no nasty conversion/shipping surprises

Same here with bike-discount pike rct 140 with 51 offset in a 29er flavour with spares and pump for 490....
(Im in shock paying that for a fork but got my codeine frame for a good price so thought Id go for the matching fork...)

I think alltricks were doing them for a 430-40 ish but would want extra postage and currency charge but no stock..

Got evoc freeride enduro blackline coming from from alltricks for 107 which I didn't think was too bad.

Good point about how to pay...

The forks are going on a Carbon Trance SX frame. It was originally specced with 160 forks, as opposed to the 140s of "normal" Trances. I feel 150mm will sit well and offer good climbing and descending.

Having said that, I've noticed some Fox34 150s in the sales section that will fit and save a few pounds.

Hmm, decisions....

I was about to start a post about bikediscount.de and actionsports.de as the cost of Pikes, Reverb and XT groupset so much better than I can get in the UK. Good to see people had good experience of bike discount. Anyone used actionsports?

Coincidentally I bought my Pikes with the intention of later getting a Trance frame albeit alloy...SX and 'normal' Trances all share the same frame. Why not just get Pike 160/130 Dual Positions? Personally, until Ive decided on the Trance, I'm dropping the travel on my dual postions to 150/120 by changing the air shaft

Back in stock on bike-discount.

Unfortunately I got impatient and spent an extra few Euros from a different website.

I was thinking of upgrading my Fox 34's for these but are they really night and day like people say?

Nothing is "night and day" any longer with modern bikes, just (50) shades of grey!

Are Pikes "better" than Fox 34mm, yes. Noticeably so, yes. Amazingly, must have 'em so, no.

BTW, these days, you might as well buy the 650b fork, even if you run 26" wheels, there's so little difference, and they will be much more future proof.

Here's a big tyred 26 wheel in my 650b forks:

Without looking at the labels, you'd never tell!

In terms of a to c I think they would be perfect, I run a Fox 36 at 150mm on mine, I think the pikes a to c is 5mm shorter which would be 5mm in the right direction imo.

Anyone know the difference in a-to-c between the 26" and 650b models?

Too late for me, I've already bought the 26" model - just curious!

Id steer clear of fox. Pikes are great I've got them in 150mm on my five if pushed I would say my bos devilles worked slightly better on my nomad when hitting stuff flat out but cost almost double the price.

Bike24..de have got 26"/160mm/solo air/ RCT3's in stock for about £420.

Although it's usually an easy site to navigate, having loads of search options, these don't show up in the listings!? However if you search 'pike' from the home page, you'll find them...

Just ordered some and a Monarch Plus debonair for out back, so I'll report when they arrive!

10mm so 650b 150 is 542mm and work from there...eg 650b 160 = 552mm, 26" 160 = 542mm etc

I can recommend these guys http://www.mountainbikes.net/mtbikes/produkt.cfm?ctry=1&za=1&lc=1&curcd=1&cid=98E97EF4-5056-B502-E52332D2E610B3C0&ref=L210YmlrZXMvcHJvZHVrdGxpc3Rlay5jZm0/Y3RyeT0xJnphPTEmbGM9MSZjdXJjZD0xJmNpZD05OEU5NTNERC01MDU2LUI1MDItRTU5QkUwMEYzNTlBMzNCOCZrYXRpZD0xJmhjPTEmYmxvd291dD0wJnNlYXJjaD0xJnN1Y2hzdHJpbmc9cm9jayUyMHNob3glMjBwaWtlJnN6PTImc3A9MzE=&pnr=24224
had a set of 26's and a set of 650b rct3's from them and had to warranty the 26" ones when the damper burst. I was away for the whole summer and they got a damper sent out to me in Italy on trust that I'd send the old one back to them. Turned the whole thing round in under a week. Excellent service. Website is a bit tricky if you don't speak German but it's not rocket science 🙂

Been watching mine on dhl website. Arrived in Gatwick. Then went back to Brussels. Now it's off somewhere else. Anyone else had strange goings-on with dhl?

Is the Alltricks one the full retail job (matt black with seal kit, tokens, pump etc)? The web site mentions that it is glossy black, which I thought only came on the OEM forks. Not that it matters at that price, but just interested.

Not quite the same as mine were from bike-discount but they were gloss black and still came all boxed up in RS box with manual, extra set of seals etc

Mine were glossy black with tokens and manual but nothing else (29" 51mm)

Seriously considering the Alltricks option... at current exchange rates it looks like £450ish for a set of 29" Pikes. Bargain-tastic.

As an aside, is anyone running 150mm 29er Pikes on a Spesh Stumpy?

Mine were from probikeshop.com and came in an OEM box, with tokens and a sticker, but no spare seals, pump, SFN.

Really wish I'd gone for the 650b option now. Still, for £380 I can't really complain. I'll just get them raised to 160mm travel when I get them serviced. I think it's just a new rod thingumy isn't it?

Edit - mines an Evo

Interesting discussion. My mate has also suggested Fox 36s, but I can't find a bad word anywhere about the Pikes.

Right, I've taken the plunge and ordered a set of 150mm 29ers from Alltricks.

All for £470 (including DPD delivery).

The only Fox forks you can find that comes close for the price are heavily discounted 34s, but you'd need to factor in the cost of damper modifications to bring them to anywhere near Pike levels of performance. 36s by all accounts are great, but I have a problem with Fox prices and the reports of stanchion wear.

Mine were the OEM with gloss black. Came with tokens and manual (can't remember if there were seals, probably not). No pump.

For the huge saving in price I've got no issue with no pump (they're worth £10 and I've got pumps anyway) and gloss paint. I scratched the lowers in a crash first ride anyway so don't care.

The ones i ordered specified on the website that they were full retail, matt paint, and had a picture of the pump and seals etc and the SRAM box on the webpage.

Got them from bike-components for 600 Euros so about £470. These are the 650b ones tho so a bit pricier than 26".

Shop was great. DHL a bit odd. The parcel has been touring around northern Europe for a week. At least they are now waiting at the delivery depot for delivery tomorrow hopefully.

DHL I find is great at getting to the UK, but then they sit in a shed at Heathrow for a week before someone gets it on a van.

Well mine went to Gatwick the day after it was dispatched. Then went back over to Brussels. And a number of other interesting places.

At least they are well travelled 😉

My Pike RCT3s arrived yesterday from Alltricks, was very pleased to see that they came with a service kit and a shock pump too. All for less than £480, or about half the cost of a Fox 36 similarly configured.

A quick living room test was enough to reassure me that they're incredibly plush. The rebound adjustment also has clicks - yay RockShox at last!

I'll fit them to my Stump tonight and will hopefully get a chance to try them out over the weekend.
