Pike at 160mm?

Hi - got a Pike select C1 (2023) which I stuck a Charger 3 damper and buttercups air shaft in which is night and day compared to the original set up in terms of performance.

Now looking to increase the travel beyond 140mm but it seems that’s the max travel for Pikes now. Wondering if I can fit an older C1 air shaft to increase the travel? Fork may become a bit flexier though? Working on a budget build hence trying to avoid new forks!

I ran a set of Pikes at 160mm and they were much older than the ones you’ve got. I can’t see any reason why it would be a problem.  I suspect though others will know better that the reason they’ve stopped at 140mm now is to better differentiate the range between Pike, Lyrik and Zeb models.

If 140mm is now the max you may find that is the limit of the dampers travel and that the stanchions are not long enough to accommodate 160mm

It was my understanding that rockshox have tweaked all their forks so there is less overlap between models. Basically each fork now has less travel options than they used to. If you want to increase the travel then you will need some lyrics

Ah, that’s what I suspected/feared. Thanks.

I had 150mm 27.5 Pikes on my hardtail, think they were 2022? No issue with flex.

I had 160mm Pikes before Lyriks existed (2015 MY bike) and they were a bit too flexy really. Even my current 150mm Pikes are noticeably flexy for me - I’d personally rather have Lyriks for a 150mm fork but of course that depends on your weight/riding style/how much weight you’re willing to give up.

No idea whether you can upgrade to 160 with the current range, but if you can it should be a cheap upgrade to try it.

I asked J-tech and they advised no. 140mm max for 2023 onward Pikes.

Aye I made a bit of a mistake when I ordered a bike a few years back (21 or 22 I think) and thought I'd be able to up the Lyrik to 180 along with the linkage to have 180 back and front if I fancied it from the 160 I'd ordered but alas that was the year they changed them all, or at least the first time I noticed it.
