Had these forks since 08,seem to be loosing air again,.will a service fix this?,stanctions look ok.
loco tuning service kit?
Probably - I'd check the air valve first though, maybe swap out the core which is easy enough. The external condition of the stanchions won't affect the air chambers anyway, the o-rings seal against the inside of the stanchions - or are self-contained if it's an Air U-Turn version.
The wiper seals just keep oil in and dirt out.
Service will probably fix - new o-rings - unless the inside of the stanchion is scratched. It's an easy enough job to do yourself, loads of walk-throughs and video guides available on line. If it's a while since you've had a service, you might even be able to revive the seals by injecting a small amount of oil into the positive air chamber with a syringe - take the valve core out, a couple of cc's of oil in.
But basically, yes, it should sort it out unless there's internal scratching, Id have thought.
cheers i think i will order the service kit off loco man
what is the core? as i aint to good with suspension to be fair.yes its the air u-turn version
yeah i meant that the stanctions look ok so its worth servicing them, instead of binning them.
The air valve at the top of the fork has a removable centre - it's a car-type Schraeder valve, you need a small tool thing to unscrew it:
Core looks like this:
Car places should sell the removal tool, it's just a little thing that unscrews the core. The seal sometimes fails or gets blocked open by a bit of dirt or whatever. The Loco kit'll probably come with a replacement valve core anyway.
hmmm cheers,i will ring loco tomorrow then..
and have a go miself,or take to local bike shop where i work part time at the mo so may be able to do it there.
No worries, the insides of RS forks are pretty simple. I reckon if I can service them, anyone can 🙂
hmmm i dunno about me,as i am a hamfisted git,captain cavemand syle 😀
what about the valve on the fork lowers?
Yeah, that too.
Same type of valve as the other one, the negative pressure one.
bring em round ****!
i may,but its a case of i need em working asap!
if not ill be round with seal kit in hand 🙂
