I've had a pair of 2019 Pikes for a couple of months now and wondering what I should expect from the LSC damping? Fully open or fully closed, I don't get any difference. To stop it blowing through the travel on the face of jumps or braking, I'm having to run it quite hard buy then I don't get into the last inch of travel. If I run it softer, they're nice and plush obviously but really don't feel nice on jumps. I was lead to believe low speed compression helps solve this but it doesn't seem to do anything on my set. Help!
Sounds busted, warranty time
Damping dissipates energy. The higher the shaft speed, the more the energy. Energy not dissipated ends up stored in the spring.
All setup is compromise.
The slow shaft speeds of a g-out (berm, lip, landing) offer alimited opportunity to dissipate energy. If you crank down the lsc, it may not be enough and it may compromise other areas of performance.
The better compromise may be more air pressure and allow more energy to be stored.
Sounds like you need another air chamber spacer ( token) to get the spring curve to ramp up more giving more support in the mid and end of travel.
I’m no expert in this but doesn’t low speed compression just control dive etc at low shaft speeds? High speed compression is fixed unless you have the rc2 damper.
You should have the debonair airshaft in that fork - so with the air of running a higher pressure than the previous version without debonair but with a plusher start and more ramp up through the travel.
I’d start by dialling all the damping back to the minimum level and get your sag setup done. Maybe aim for 25% sag first.
Then set the rebound so it’s just enough to stop pogoing but not too slow so it lacks down.
Then maybe look at tokens - what travel have you got / what weight are you / how many tokens are in there?
My understanding is that tokens will make sure it ramps up at the end to stop bottoming, but that they probably aren’t going to add huge amounts of mid travel ramp up.
Set your lsc last bit I haven’t the foggiest idea how to set that really!
I’ve got a 2017 Pike RC running 140mm of travel with a debonair 2019 airshaft in it. I think it has 2 tokens in there (but not 100% sure) and I’m running the rc compression dial wide open. Not sure on pressure but I set it up with 25% sag. I’m between 75-80kgs in weight. Fork is on a hardtail and just feels really plush with no bottoming out. I’ve ridden it on loads of different stuff including a half day uplift at Flyup 417 where there are some decent dropoffs and some tables at the bottom that I jump.
