...in order to try and convince my wife to ride Snowdon with me i'd like as many photo's of the Llanberis and Ranger paths as possible.
I'm looking to do this for my 30th birthday so would really like my wife to give it a go. I know she can do as she's ridden pretty technical stuff in the Alps.
Loads here when we did it back in October http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/dartmoor-posse-welsh-do-snowdon-stuff-sunny-photos
Thats great Snaps...did you take the bridleway back over (Telegraph something??) in order to return to Llanberis?
Just how technical does the Rangers get? if thats not a stupid question.
have a look on here www.youtube.com/forge197
Yes but take a map as the turn off back to Telegraph valley is easy to miss.
Not to techy, just a few tight switchbacks covered in loose stone & a couple of medium dropoffs.
How good are your wife's skills? How confident is she? I would say that the Ranger path is pretty tricky in a few places and you need a lot of confidence to ride it. I didn't ride it all and I normally consider myself technically proficient. Without body armour/full face the penalty for failure on a couple of sections would be a pretty nasty injury as your landing is jagged rock.
its got a few cheeky rock gardens with sharp pointy bits but you can see them coming and get your game face on. its definitely not for a newbie or someone who just rides trail centres but its not got any 'do or die' moves. i rode it with my old man earlier this year and he got off for a couple of rock gardens and didnt do the awkward drop offs. as you get lower down its kind of like riding in a gulley and its not that fast so plenty of time to size stuff up and decide whether to give it a go. i love it!
Forge..Thats perfect, couldn't have asked for more!
My wife is pretty confident, she ain't your typical girl! plus we both started biking at the same time so we're not that far apart skill wise and she'll give most stuff a try especially when wearing armour. Having just watched all of Forge's videos i can't see anything that looks much harder than the stuff we rode in the Tarentaise Valley last year.
The climb up will be a bugger but it looks worth it.
the climb isnt that bad, as long as its not a foul day! dont bust a lung cos you want your energy for the downhill. have a quick stop at the halfway cafe, a quick stop under the railway just after the first steep bit, then you only have about 20 minutes til the rangers turn-off. 2 hours is pretty comfortable.
I thought there was a cycle ban from may to september?
As mentioned the Telegraph Turn of Rangers is easy to miss basically a small wooden sign pointing up a grass slope 🙂
Also there is a ban at the moment at certain hours so check that out before you go too.
Rangers has it's moments some of it is quite technical but it is a heap of fun.

Mean't to add great pictures
I'm well aware of the ban....setting off at 5pm should give us plenty of time although we'll have lights just in case.
Great pics BTW.
Quick write-up from a blast down the Ranger path a couple of weeks ago. We shuttled round to Snowdon Ranger which isn't a bad way of doing things. Definitely harder riding than the 'beris path, but a lot more interesting because of it.

Thanks for that....it looks well worth doing but i'm having trouble convincing my wife it's worth the ride/push up!
I really want to do it but not on my own....that just doesn't seem remotely sensible.
