I know nothing beats throwing your actual leg, over an actual bike. But if you can't do that, how do you ensure you pick the right size frame...? So I'm going to buy a NS Bikes RAG frameset off CRC, as it's £510 quid, but don't know if I should get the small or medium.

I had a bike fit for my old tri bike many years ago, and have these details:
ErgoFit details

Looking at the size chart on the CRC website, my inside leg measurement puts me on a large, but I'm barely only about 173cm tall, so either a small or medium.

Can anyone point me to a website, or book or something, that explains how to fit yourself to a bike...? Or recommend a good pre buying your bike bike fit service, in Cambridgeshire, or London...?

You have long legs for 173 cm. saddle height is 0.883x inside leg plus crank length which gives the 90 cm in your fit. Long legs and shorter body says size down. Looking a the effective top tube on that site, you are on the border of S/M. In such circumstances I like to size down and fit with a longer stem.

Either will fit but smaller frame with longer stem will handle better. There is no headtube length listed, but you might think about bar height. Small frames might need a flipped stem.

Those frames look quite large. Medium has a 55.5 effective top tube with slacker head angle (which makes the ETT smaller). Based on that, I’d go small.

You appear to have long legs for your height, so you probably could make medium or large work. That bike seems very compact, but I'm used to seeing numbers for modern trail full Sussers, which are far longer, but with much shorter seat posts. If you have long arms (Google ape index) then go large. Otherwise medium.

So just tried to measure myself (with help) and I'm evidently taller than I think. So, height of 174cm, arm span of 177cm, resulting in an ape index of 1.02.

It kind of looks like you are in the medium range for reach.

Well, in a rather unsuspected turn of events, I'm only £355 away from being able to afford a Mason Bokeh GRX. 😲

Since that's what lots pf people were telling me to buy in other in my other threads, I may as well save up the rest. So, given the bike fit details above, what size of Bokeh frame should I get...? I'm assuming a 54m medium.
