hello all.

Currently use 700c reynolds wheels with 700/40 tyres.

Quite a bit of room available but will a 29/ 2.1 fit?

im thinking a Racing Ralph or similar.

anyone know for sure before I place an order

That would be pushing it.  I chucked a 27.5 on it with 2.25 ralphs just to see if they would fit.... They did but had zero clearance.  I'd imagine a 2.0 on a 27.5 might just fit but doubt it would on a 700c

Doubt it. I've a 700x42 Conti AT ride in mine (2018, not sure if any different in clearance?) ... plenty of room to spare but doubt a knobbly 2.1. When I was considering getting mine, read a thread on here and someone posted pics of their 650x2in (file tread) wheels/tyres.

Yep. 650 2.0 are ok with some room.

26 with a 2.25 is ok but I don’t know the max capacity on a 700 with file on knobby treads.

rims are 29mm external / 23 internal.

the early pickenflick frames were designed around a double chain set and had less clearance in the rear stays. Newer ones ( I think 2015 onwards ) are wider in the stays but still run a double or single ring.
