I'm looking still for a pic or better still an older hope No12 caliper. Its not a 'WTD' per say but just a pic would be fine. Trouble is I dont know what one looks like and wouldnt like to miss one coming up on ebay if its not stamped with a number.

M4 and mini were I think the two that had the no12. For Marzocchi super monster T, monster T/T2

I'm sure witth these forks one of you must have used this caliper.

Ta.

Are you sure it’s a 12? I thought the calipers only went to 11.

The Spinal Tap of callipers

Oh man, I almost put an asterix to the effect that it wasn’t a Spinal Tap reference!

Looks like a no then 🙁

The calipers go from 1-9+9:74, then 11 and according to Hope's data sheets a No12 too. The No10 not existing in the retail world(It was apparently a prototype for a 140mm rear cyclocross system.)

I'm on retrobike

I don't think theres a place for a Spinal Tap reference.

Thanks-y-all.

Mibbe try Southern Downhill if they're still in existence.

It'll be an older split caliper.

Something like this:

&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fsingletrackworld.com%2Fforum%2Ftopic%2Ffs-rs-monarch-42-hope-enduro-m4-easton-stem-lx-shifters-race-face-headset%2F&docid=l2w07KrR7nbmJM&tbnid=YEdlU0BL_2G7PM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwjXqseT8_raAhWIvxQKHSPlCtgQMwg9KAMwAw..i&w=800&h=600&bih=918&biw=1280&q=hope%20m4%20no%2012&ved=0ahUKEwjXqseT8_raAhWIvxQKHSPlCtgQMwg9KAMwAw&iact=mrc&uact=8

but with a no 12 caliper half - don't know exactly what they look like though having never seen one

There's a guy on retrobike who has collected (almost) all of the calipers and has them arranged on a clock face. I'll try and find the link.

Why don't you just email Hope? They are usually very helpful.

Still no luck but thanks very much for the interest here.

The caliper is mentioned here, and states No Adaptor Required, which led me to think its a caliper, not a mount. Of course i could be wrong.

Yup, sad case on retrobike is me 🙁

I did email hope about the No12 but i got back a not sure type of answer with them saying it would be in their museum somewhere or a drawer and thats about all they supplied on detail, to neither confirm or deny.

I do know from many of the non is or non is mount calipers for right side use-i think was dual front for rickshaw type vehicles but as hope have stated themselves to me in the past that in the early nineties they were making things for different markets and couldnt realy say one way or the other what the history of it all is. It was a new direction, so lots of experimenting.

A DH forum is ideal i suppose, but unfortunately im not on facebook. Ive no intention of joining it though even if it provided the long lost caliper.

Try emailing Craig at Ride On in Rawtenstall. Shop@rideon.co.uk

He raced downhill in the right era and they were big users of Hope and Marzocchi stuff. They are also a rare shop that carry lots of spares - just possible he would remember and have one stached in the cellar.

No.2 was the mountless kit

No.4 was the Formula 41mm mount found on dual tab Bombers

No.7 was 68mm post mount

Dug this out an old SDH thread: http://ride.io/forum/index.php?topic=166636.0

Thanks but its actually the No4 is 48mm, and its not the no7 thats 68, thats the no9, its the no9:74 thats the correct post mount(standard now, manitou originally.)

I checked one of my old posts on RB. As follows.

And its just for everyones info, as these a retrosection of members.

Caliper #1: This is a special caliper that is used when no disc mounting tabs are on the frame/fork. Example: 1998 Pace fork, with tapered leg, and 155mm disc.
Caliper #2: This caliper is to be used on frames with no rear disc brake mount. The rear rotor is 155mm.
Caliper #3: This caliper is to be used on the front with 185mm rotors or on the rear with 165mm rotors.
Caliper #4: This caliper is to be used with 1997 Marzocchi Z1 and Z2 forks with a 185mm rotor.
Caliper #5: This caliper is to be used on the front with 165mm rotors. Rear 145mm
Caliper #6: This caliper is to be used with '98-'00 Rock Shox Boxxer forks. Rotor = 185mm.
Caliper #7: This caliper is to be used with Answer X-Verts that do not have Hayes mounts and a 165mm rotor.
Caliper #8: This caliper is to be used on the rear with 185mm rotors.
Caliper #9: This caliper is to be used with Manitou forks w/ 68mm hole spacing with 165mm rotors (??). No adapter is required (bolts directly to the fork tabs).
Caliper 9:74. Post mount for 165mm rotors Front or Rear
Caliper #10: ???I'm the only person in the world to own the No10 caliper- a prototype for a 140mm rear cyclocross(Hope themselves likely have a few) though I've got the hub.
Caliper #11:74 This DH4 caliper is to be used with Manitou X-Vert Carbon forks. No adapter is required (bolts directly to the fork tabs). Post mount for 185mm

And the elusive No12, is still elusive 😆

Which one was this, #3?

I thought that was #1 but that doesn't tally with the description above. #3 was much more conventional looking https://www.google.com/search?q=hope+c2+number+3&prmd=ismvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjdupv_0oPbAhUlIcAKHfaADJcQ_AUICSgB&biw=360&bih=556&dpr=2#imgrc=ukJ6ciBmvrJf5M

We are talking C2/O2 aren't we, this mysterious 12 wasn't a Mini/XC4/DH4 was it?

Aye, 2 No6's, Is that hetro ? 😆

Im having problems getting the clock pic from RB here 😳 Can anyone post one for me. Not teccy really.

Clock 1-12, for the 12 theres a rear 1/2 stopgap. see the shape- thats the corresponding number.

The 9,9:74 and 11:74 are all post mount, with only the 11:74 and 9 used. The 9:74 is self-explanatory.

When I asked at Hope the chap on the phone though it cool, though i have to admit this has grown into an embarrassing obsessional nightmare and i think I've 1/2 the country's cyclists now watching this. 😆 😳

@Andrewh. Sorry, just noticed that bit doon the bottom.

Its listed as mini and m4, but other than that details are sketchy. I'm pretty sure the mini version isnt cut out like on the m4, but a solid extended mount. I couldnt tell you about the 'O's. I've been avoiding them for years.

O2/C2 were the same caliper, different levers, open or closed master cylinder. Same with DH4/XC4, the DH4 used the O2 lever and the XC4 the C2 lever. Two levers, two calipers, four combinations.

The Pro lever came along and the old lever was sold alongside as the Sport for a while, heavier but cheaper.

No doubt the OP knows all this but might jog someone else's memory?

I think the numbering system was common to all of the above calipers and also the original Mini? M4 was a 4 pot caliper with a Mini lever.

These were all the old split calipers, the mounting bit would be different depending on the numbers, the backs were the same. You only had to change half a caliper to change mounts.

The Mono Mini came next and had the Mini lever with a one-piece caliper, they also went from silver to black calipers at this point (2004) I've no idea what happened after that.

@Andrewh

The O caliper is different too, the piston is similar to todays open pistons and not like the C2 which screwed onto the caliper body at the back. There are no indents in the O caliper to facilitate being unscrewed, you pump them out to remove.

O2 and c2 levers were the same only the top cap/seal changed

They came in. Two different shapes the sport with a long blade and rotatable MC that was parallel to the bars and the pro with a short blade and fixed MC that was perpendicular to the bars.

Pro lever was much easier to fix up with some zip. Ties post crash

Sure. It's easier than you think, just right click 'Copy' on the original image and then 'Paste' in a reply in STW.

Excellent, cheers for the pic.

@Trail_rat

Aye, a diaphragm held on by a ring, and in the bottom of the cylinder the wee hole was covered by a small rectangular thin metal plate, i suppose to slow down fluid movement or sumfin

Theres actually a 3rd lever type, for the sport master cylinder. very short, very fat and I think(dont quote me here) needed to fit them after you bled the brakes as the movement wasnt enough to do it. I think a feathering type affair rather than full on. More racing orientated that normal pottering about 😕

Copy and pasting a pic isnt working for me. no pic then for u all.

How ?. just copy paste does nothing. Do i insert link , say load it to RB, then link to here, or click insert pic, in which case its asking for info i dont fk know. Pain in the derriere.

On RB its simple, must be too high tech and modern over here.

#Postie is just arrived with something nice(non bikey) must go.

Ill load a lever pic into rb, in case its a simple simple thing im doing wrong.

You need it to be hosted somewhere (flickr, imgur etc), then either copy the link and use the "insert image icon", or just right-click on the image and copy, then paste. It won't work if the image is just on your desktop / phone etc though. I think retrobike does image hosting as well which is why it might appear easier on there.

Ha! I sometimes think I'd better off just ditching the retainer washer and keeping zip ties on instead as they never seem to last any amount of time.

2002 E4 still going strong.

Thanks for that, nice to know there were people thinking about me 😀

I should have updated, but it was a while back and can do now, but I found a No12 about the end of october there 🙂
So got them all, and just need to complete something to put them on.
The timber ply board is just too heavy. Currently rethiking what im putting it on.
But nice all the same to have all the parts that makes the project a goer.

Cheers again all.

Actually the guy I bought it off was willing to split his auction to do me a buy it now on the No12. I can put that particular caliper down for 40 quid. Committed though lol.
