I know there's a 1001 phone apps for navigation, but after a recommendation to help save battery.
Planning some long road rides and fine creating the gpx files etc.
What I'm after though is an app that can import the gpx and work as a satnav, but I'm trying to maxmise battery life, so I only want the app to wakeup/ping/flash etc when I reach a junction - rather than being on the whole time like google maps etc.
Have used OS maps app in the pas, but that requires having to stop and manually wake the phone up at each junction to see where you are.
Essentially I think the answer mau just be a bigger battery or a dedicated GPS.
Thanks
This is something Google Maps used to do, I don't know why they got rid of it.
From experience, a dedicated gps unit works best, or is at least, a little less faff, garmin edge 530 has a more than excellent battery life
On the more affordable end of the scale, I tend to carry something like this in my pack at all times just in case, if you have any sort of top tube or frame bag, when you need it, charger in bag, lead from charger to phone, extra life for the dying phone battery, the few times I’ve needed it, it’s got me out of trouble

Thanks both - I do have an power bank thing, but it's a slow trickle charge affair, but hadn't thought of putting it in a handlebar bag. That would do the trick.
Paper map and free download o/s locate. Only really need to use app at junctions or in poor vis just as a check. Long since binned off the idea of a few hundred £ for a new gps.
