The drainage is finished, the signs are up and the barriers are down!

The new stuff is 3.5km of Red that fits nicely with the existing Blue that opened a couple of years ago at the bottom of the hill and the greater trail network along the Irwell Valley.

There is a new car park at the trail head in Philips but no loos, so have a poo before you set off or you’ll have to do it “Jungle Style”.

The official opening will be at HTN on Feb 16th. I you are doing it I would recommend that you go and have a look beforehand. We will be using the first 1000m of the clockwise loop which is a bit like a massive BMX track in the trees, with jumps and berms and stuff. Sending 300 bikes through it is going to be entertaining. 😉

So… there you go. The council have built it for you to play on.

What are you waiting for?

I met a lad on a Brompton riding the car park side of the trail last weekend. I was quite surprised that he was still alive when I met him again at the end of the trail.

Does this mean we have to have a poo before HTN?

Right. I've had a poo. What do you want me to do with it?
Hurry up, it's getting cold.

You will be able to poo at the Rugby Club if you use their car park.

Rich and funkrodent:
I've no idea what that all means but if you sort out what you're doing between you and then send me an email with the new details at jason AT hitthenorth.net I should be able to sort.
don't fanny about though cos I want to finalise the start list this week.

Ben twice recently and heading back again mid week before HtN.

Great trails for the money, looking forward to HtN as well.

But which tyres?

The local trails around us are sheet ice....is it any better in Philips park? If so, I may give it a go this weekend.

on the bit I ride through this morning there were a few small ice patches and a bit of packed snow - better than other sections of my commute.

The new stuff was more or less ice free the other night.

2 sets of tracks on the blue stuff this evening, one fresh one older probably you two I guess ( hts n terrahawk)

Rode some of the new stuff last night (from top of mtfu hill around to the kingfisher lodge), seems good, nice n swoopy. on a cx bike in the dark it actually rode better backwards* due to being slower, looking forward to trying it in day
light on an mtb.

Hall?
that boarded up place with the gardens, next to the HTN start/finish field. I assumed it was Philips hall or something

*was having trouble finding it, picked up the trail at kingfisher rode it to the top then back down

I recall once as a young (off duty) probationary constable things got a bit lairy in there after I'd had one too many sniffs of the barmaids apron. I was unceremoniously dumped in the back of a dog van - with the dog about two inches from my face separated by a very thin piece of mesh. Soon sobered me up 😆
