Armstrong I'm pretty indifferent about these days, don't dislike him as much as when he was riding. Liggett though, a real piss boiler.

After all his years of support, Phil would have to reach deep into his suitcase of courage and really go into the red zone before dropping Lance.

One of the best pieces of news I've heard so far this year is that Phil'n'paul won't be commentating on the tour for ITV4. Boulting and Millar are doing it apparently.

Well Liggett was on the livestrong guest speaker private jet money for nothing merry go round, so no surprise he still won't break ranks.

The thing is, as I have learned a bit more about tour cycling, the tactics and the teams over the past few years, it is absolutely clear how clueless he is about it all, he really is an appallingly bad commentator.

"[i]Phil the shill"[/i] is how i've heard him described by those in the race scene, quite an apt description by all accounts.

@MSP One of the things about having Millar as the second commentator on the Vuelta last year was his insight in to tactics - he'd say something along the lines of "what they need to do now is ..." and about 30 seconds later the breakaway would do exactly that.

I lost a lot of respect for PL when Lance coughed & Phil refused to accept he doped...

TBF Lance made Phil a very rich man, so he'd be silly to really have a go at him. But it would be good for everyone if he disappeared to his holiday home, or failing that he vanished into a mine in africa.

I think that's my beef with him. Everyone knows he was in bed with Lance (business partner, on the gravy train, etc.) He should just come clean, declare that, or not comment. Just a complete lack of any journalistic integrity.

And he's a crap clueless commentator. The times I've had the misfortune to hear him commentating I wonder if he's even watching the same race I am.

Edit... oh and to claim he didn't know what was going on at the time, that level of naiveté from someone who was meant to be the voice of cycling is unbelievable. As much a part of the ometra as Lance. Has no place commentating on he sport now.
