Has anyone come across a PF30 -> Shimano BB adapter that can cope with a step up / lip in the middle of the BB shell?

I've got a SRAM adapter in the CX bike (Boardman CX if that makes a difference) at the minute - but its started to creak / click! Just like the original SRAM BB and chainset.

I would prefer not so spend a fortune on it.

My CAADX has a big lip in the middle, Im happy with the BB30, yes it creaks once the bearings aren't new, but they're dirt cheap and a doddle to change. Only reason I'd ditch it is to get a 105 chainset with a power meter.

So havent tried them but did see these.

The other option is FSA do reducers that go between the axle and the bearings so you keep the bb30 but can

<edit> youre talking about pf30 not bb30, which by most accounts is worse. But you can get screw together addapters that fit? Or have a look at EBBs which fit in a pf30 shell?

Or theres a similar one:

Id try one of the screw together BBs first if theyll fit past the lip.

I've fitted the Hope PF30 to 24,mm bottom brackets in Boardmans before. It's not cheap but they are great.

Thanks - but I definitly need a more budget friendly solution. This change started off as a a way of fitting a "bargain" power meter and it's getting out of hand now 🙂

thisisnotaspoon - I can see some screw together ones on ebay: I may take a punt on one of those.

Look at wheels manufacturing. They have a variety of solutions. I suspect the best will be the thread together cups to 24mm. Or they do adapters so you can use 24mm cranks with 30mm bearings.

CX Team 2014? I had the same problem, so I fitted a Wheels Manufacturing PressFit 30 to Shimano 24mm Axle Bottom Bracket. This allows for outboard BB and HT2 Cranks. I'm running some SLX cranks on mine but if you want to run road cranks you'll need something slightly different. It screws together and I haven't had a creak since. Still runnning the beaings 2 years later and that's with 2 cross seasons on it.

To be fair, trying to do it "on a budget" will probably lead to more frustration and expense. Get it right first time.

FSA do a threaded sleeve adapter, they're about fifteen quid if you shop about. This would probably work if you cut it in half with a saw and installed both sides individually. You can then screw in a normal BB cup.

That one? I have one sat on the shelf at home as it doesn't fit the Boardman frame, it's quite a considerable "lip"!

Yes, that one. If you cut it in to two pieces and fit both sides separately then you should avoid any issues with a lip in the middle of the BB shell.

Thanks for the ideas!

Its a CX Team from 2018. I dont think that threaded sleeve would fit as is - and dont think cutting it in half would add much benefit.
