About to get a frame with PF30 - wish it had been standard English but hey ho.
I have two options:
1. Run my SLX cranks via a converter. Looking at Praxis works. Can you tell me if they are reliable?
2. Buy a new BB30 crankset, perhaps XX1, but are the PF30 bb's all rubbish?

Cheers

In my experience the SRAM ones are rubbish. I am having much more success with a wheels manufacturing one with angular contact bearings. A whole different league in quality and longevity so far. Not cheap though.

I have a wheels pf30 with regular povvo bearings, £30, deffo worth it, much better build than the SRAM one.

The tools to fit/remove are a bit expensive though 🙁 Quite a few threads about different options, and the praxis does get mentioned a lot.

I run a double slx crank with praxis works and it was great until I went 1x10 and the chain line was awful when on the 36t and 32t cogs . Don't know if it's just my bike (niner air 9). So gonna fit pf30 bb and a fsa crank I've got to see if it's any better.

So far in 3 months I've has 2 SRAM PF30 BB's, and the Enduro/wheels one.

The SRAM ones are hilarious. They last a matter of rides before the bearings are falling apart.

The Wheels/Enduro one showed better promise. But soon started creaking. Had it apart again, and found the DS cup was repeatedly trying to 'walk' out if the frame. Glued it in since. The bearings are also already f*cked. It's about 8 weeks old. Not impressed.

I don't understand why bearing life is such an issue on them, I can get the issue of the cups moving, due to a lack of thread interface, but the bearing issue baffles me. Got fed up with it now, so I've got. praxxis one coming. That should resolve the issues of the cups trying to remove themselves from the frame. Hopefully the bearings will last a bit longer. I'm running some XTR cranks instead of the SRAM PF30 spindle now.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I shall put my faith in Hope and keep the slx.

My Focus Izalco Pro has a BB30, I use a Wheels Manufacturing adaptor to run a Dura-Ace crankset. No problems in about 1500km.

The potential issue is with the bearing/frame interface with BB30; in my experience as a bike mechanic in a road shop the adaptors cause no problems. We always used Wheels Manufacturing bits.

Rorschach. I think the new Hope PF BB are 92s dont think they are doing them in 30s.. Though E13 are doing something simular with the threaded centre tube.. Nice concept...Should stop them walking and destroying frames.

Hob Nob. How the Spesh 29er coming along? Im test riding on one in a few week with a deposit already on one of the remaining few coming onto the country shortly afterwards.. Any regrest, parts you'd change from new?

cheers

Sram and repack the bearings every couple weeks and never get degreaser or strong soap near it.

Or King PF30 and worries over.

It's mint, for the most part. There are some spec annoyances, but mine has changed a bit now to reflect my own preferences.

The Roval/DT wheels are too floppy for me, so i'm running some DT/Derby now which are much better. Usual bits like wider bars, short stem, Reverb, brakes, etc

Suspension differences, i'm running a Float X on the back now. I'm also toying with an Avalanche cartridge in the Pike, just to see what it's all about.

Actual riding - it was fast out of the box, now it's faster 🙂

The PF30 thing is a pain in the ass though. I hope the Praxxis one solves my annoyances.

I have had the same PF30 in a bike since August 2012. So it's outlasted my average time from a normal HTII.

Mine lasted a good 4 months in my CX bike, bobbins if you ask me. Just going to stick with bearing changes as I'm not spending on a new crank and a bb adapter

11 months on my bike, SRAM one lasted 4 months, the FSA one is going now.

I've done a total of 800 miles on it, pretty hard miles, a lot of uplifts and natural stuff in south wales.

Liking the idea of the praxis with zee cranks tho.
