Hi All,

I'm going to be acquiring a Peugeot Tandem in the coming days, as a bit of a summer project I thought it'd be entertaining to carry out a bit of renovation, paint the frame, change the cranks/BB's, brakes and wheels along with anything else appropriate.

I understand the BB is french threaded, and seeing as though it's going to be painted the suggestion was to re-thread to English.

Other than that, are there any pointers/advice on where would be a good source of spares and parts? Any requirements for wheels or can I just get some fairly hefty wheels?

Is this a silly idea?

ta 😉

JD cycles in ilkly are a good source of parts. Why change the cranksets?

I prefer a light touch conservation to heavy handed restoration but your choice.

wheels - get tandem rated ones

St johns street cycles is the other big tandem shop I know of but I don't like thier attitude.

Once you start changing enough bits it is sometimes easier to start with a different bike.

The french BB thread might be awkward to retap (taps can break in the process) :
British 1.370" x 24F tpi left / right
French 35mm x 1mm right/ right

Some tandems have other strange quirks:

Also the Peugeot frames are commonly metric size tubes, strange size seat posts and front mech sizes needed. Plus, headsets that convince most people to abandon and get a different bike.

Re-tapping the BB sounds weird/insane.

The only Peugeot tandems I have seen have been cheap and cheerful - if it were me I would not be spending much time/money on it, but up to you!

If you get me a list of part hard to get I'll see what I can do...

Yer, after some (too much) thought, I'll be leaving the BB and cranks as is (polishing them up if I can be fussed) with a change of bars front and back, and if I can find 'em in the shed, a set of XT V-brakes (unless the frame paint dude comes back and says it'll be well priced to weld up a disc-mount. (as I understand a 3rd brake is really quite important, either that or a disc conversion)

Thank's Juan, v.kind of you! I shall let you know if I need anything (sourced directly)!

It looks like the headset is a 1" ... but other than that I don't know a lot.
