Just out of interest, what front ring size do you run?

32 on one bike, 36 on the other. If it was an everything bike, 32 I recon (I don't miss the upper gears)

Does it feel "gappy" in the ratios?

Not at all. You miss some ratios at the top and bottom from time-to-time. Which ones depends on your fitness, the terrain your on, and the duration of your ride. My rides are up hills <350m and are rarely longer than 3 hours.

I'm running 1x10 which is 34t with 11-36 and I like it. When I'm on the road I'd like another gear at times but the off-road stuff is more than covered ok

32 x 11-32

Will probably go to 34 when I eventually change to 10 speed with a 11-36 cassette.

32T with an 11-36 cassette.

Got low enough gears still for just about anything that way still (as long as I get out the saddle and honk), and only run out of gears at the top end on downhill sections on road.

Got a 36T kicking about too, might try it soon see if I can manage that up all my normal climbs.
