hi guys, ill be in scotland for a few weeks and as im staying in the dundee area i thought i would try and explore a bit more. I have done all the local stuff to death and really fancy heading down to the pentlands to explore down there as im more into natural rides than trail centres.
If anyone would be king enough to suggest starting points and rough areas that have good riding i would be very grateful. Ill get an OS map for when i head out but local knowledge will save a lot of wasted time and energy.
Many thanks all 😀
I am a regular pentlands rider but I wouldn't travel to get to them - same amount of driving from dundee will take you to better riding.
Edit - e mail in profile for route advice
we may be going out riding....speak to joe at the shop...
cheers TJ, any reason why it not worth travelling?
And cycleworld - forgot to say wont be in scotland for another 10 days or so. 😀
mactheknife - Membercheers TJ, any reason why it not worth travelling?
There is a lot better riding within the same drive or a bit more from dundee.
Pentlands is Ok - but nothing exciting. Its a decent network of paths but few bits of great merit
Edit - e mail me and I'll sort you out some routes tho
Thanks for the info. I think ill head up to the glens instead and try a route i have been planning for ages, ill have to dig the map out.
Thanks for the heads up TJ, mucho appreciated.
There are some great routes in the Pentlands and certainly worth a visit if you're passing, I would probably not make a special visit unless you really want to. If you have a date in mind, post up and i'm sure a local can show you about.
Might head over to pitmedden forest, has anyone got a heads up on it??
Sorry for all the rambling on but time is limited when i get up north.
Thanks again
I live on the endge of the Pentlands and agree that while it's definitely worth a visit if you're passing, given the other riding in Scotland it wouldn't be top of my list for travelling to.
From Dundee you could head a bit to the north and give Mount Keen a go for example. The Ochils are also closer and while I've never ridden there myself I've heard mention of good stuff.
Pitmedden is an underrated gem but you need someone to show you around to get the best out of it as there are lots of trials going every which way and things can get confusing.
If you email me nearer the time, I'll see if I have some free time.
Cheers,
SC
Cheers stuartie, that would be good, ill email you when i know roughly my dates. Though reading on here are you a bit of a racing snake? 😀 my legs aint bad but not snake standard 😛
epicsteve - Mount keen is on my list of rides to do. ill check out my map stash and plan a route. Might have to be early doors as the family will have things planned. Between that and pitmedden i should be happy.
Im looking forward to just getting away from trail centres. While they are great its such a shame not to see more of scotland while i can 😛
*cough* DumYat Hill & Ben Cleugh *cough*
My current faves if you like a big up and big down. Or 2. Actually, does anyone know an offroad route to link these two? That would be a good day's riding.
Though reading on here are you a bit of a racing snake?
Erm...No. I take part in a few races but I'm no racing snake! Mid-table mediocrity is my thing, alas.
