I thought it had been closed because the trees are diseased:

http://www.forestry.gov.uk/newsrele.nsf/web-allbysubject/1E927D7BFE9F8D1C802577450058197D

Some fungus that can be spread by (among other things) bikes - gets picked up on the tyres.

So probably a good idea to avoid it.

The closure for forest work was planned well before the fungus issue.

The trail is still there and very ridable . . apparently

Allegedly (Ahem) a group set out to ride it a couple of weeks back at ridiculous o'clock on a Sunday morning (7am). Would you believe we met two excavators working on it! The guys were understandably miffed that we'd ridden past the (very clear) signage but did let us past after some pleading.

Almost all the signage is gone and large parts of it obliterated. You'd be better off riding the other trails

Had the same logging experience a while ago. I could read but chose to try and find a way lol. And i did, ended up doing a very short version of a trail and going past them working which ended up in me riding out the forest and into some hole of a town not knowing where i was. Then i spotted some fit copper(Which are normally pig ugly) who id thought id ask directions. To which she said turn right at the rugby club and your back at the trail centre lmao. Very short ride indeed.
