Im planning an overnight stay with my 7 year old daughter.

I had planned on doing some blue runs with her but I'm afraid the novelty will wear off pretty quick. Is there anything else nearby you'd recommend before we head back up the road?

There is quite a network of blues at GT now, 'old' ones like Betty Blue, Blue Velvet, Bern Baby Berm etc and then the new trails as well (which are much faster). So quite a bit to entertain. But at 7 years old I'd also be suggesting to ride along the multi-use path into Inners for ice cream. Its a really nice outing along the river. Alternatively, head up stream into Peebles for the same.

There is a pump track beside the railway path at Cardrona and another on the east side of Walkerburn.

Kalzie has easy fishing and a putting green beside the Tweed.

Paddle boards and kayacks at St Marys Loch.

Go Ape Glentress.

The ride to the Loch at Glen Estate may suit as well. Park in the lane beside the main house. A nice spot for a picnic at the loch.

Park in the lane beside the main house

Please don't park on the lane. Park by the gatehouse. As far as i am aware thats an official request from the estate.

I should have been a bit clearer. Yes park by the gatehouse in the layby provided on the Glen Estate. There is limited parking however.

I have not ever parked there , have ridden up , but (may) then be too far with a youngster.  Thanks for that Joshvegas.

Another thing to do is ride up the new bike path to Eddleston and visit the Polish Map of Scotland. Not too far and nice to have a destination.

Thank you folks.

First time away with my daughter just the two of us, her Mum and I are no longer together and I'm lacking some confidence in the whole scenario.

I feel I've over shared here.😁

Okay so.

The Vlen Estate is lovely walk or ride. You are aiming for the fishing loch at the top. From there you can follow the burn northish which has a nice wee river walk before walking the high road back in a LollyPop route. Its a particularly nice house and the estate is generally very quiet. Take a picnic

Loch ofthe Lowes Paddleboarding is a great shout. There is also a walk around St Marys loch but from Loch of the Lowes side just walk along the south path past tibbie shields and you go through some ancient woodland and eventually you end up at a beach with some weird land anchors. Great picnic spot. Take a picnic or the cafe where you hire paddleboards is decent in a bacon roll way.

If its hot... Walk up the river through the park towards neidpath castle. You can swim in the pool below the castle, ots fairly obvious with a beach and stuff but just follow the path until you hit the rock outcrop and thats the pool. The flows in and out can be a bit fast but the ppol itself is a cracking dip and feels adventurous. Carry on and follow the path until you come to the railway bridge climb up the steps and cross the river then you can immediately walk the tunnel (you absolutely need a torch). Or you can cut left and drop down to the river bank and follow that path all the way to the park again. Picnic wherever. If thats to much walking you can also just swim just upstream of the park where there is another rocky outcrop.

Bike path from peebles to walkerbirn for pump track (way better than the cardrona one). Swimming in the river upstream of the inners carpark bridge. Icecream in innerleithen.

Bike path to eddleston to see the polish map of Scotland. Food is delicious in the horseshoe.

Um. Most X62 Bus takes bikes so you can hop on to return if you think its needed.

Basically riding walking and swimming.

Obvs river and swimming has to be caveated but these are well known deep pools and used loads.

Hydro hotel has Alpacas and ducks/chicken in the grounds, plus big chess set, playpark etc...

Several playparks around Peebles, best one is probably Victoria Park, south side of the river- cross the pedestrian bridge and over the road and you can't miss it.

Caldwells for ice cream.

Neidpath for swimming in the Tweed- will generally be someone there in nice weather.

Kailzie gardens for a wander about.

Neidpath tunnel for a "scary" adventure, will need a torch.

Ah it was awesome.

We jumped off the rocks at Neidpath into the deep pools when we arrived, it was still scorchio at teatime.

Next day we rode our bikes on the blue runs, in retrospect a very bad idea. 🤦

She made it though. Green run or pumptrack as advised would have been much more appropriate.

Visited Caldwells followed  by more rock jumping then kayaked at St Mary's Loch, bit of a cool down in the water then stopped for Fish and Chips at Moffat before we went home.

If Carlsberg did weekends..

Brilliant- you probably saw my wife and kids at Neidpath, they spend most of their life there!

For next time. You might like a walk up to loch skene. It would have been brutal this weekend.

Also an opportunity for a great river swimming bothy location at ganeshope.
