I'm going to ride down there on Sunday. Im after a spot of lunch then up the road. I used to frequent the Peel cafe but not no more.

Any recommendations?

For lunch

There's the glentress hotel, and whatever the have rebranded the cafe bit. It's been a while but it's been grand when I have been in.

Coco blackas and Caldwell are weird suggestions as neither of them sell lunch type food? Ones a patisserie and the other is an ice-cream shop*?

Both. (Great) Bakeries are closed on Sundays, Greggs is open.

If you want good coffee and a step or two above Greggs Coltmans or osso are the answer.

There are also a few cafes Cozy Kitchen and number 56 (something like that anyway)

Or pubs, the crown is indy the county is green king both serve what you would expect. There is also the spoons...

The Milkman does excellent coffee but the food is limited to delicious pastries.

Now. If you really want to stuff your face with good food and you are road riding (or drovers roading with a minor detour) get ye to the horseshoe in eddlestone.

In terms of bike security if you are on your own, you'll be window watching, I can't think of anywhere that has a useful bike spot. Horseshoe is a bit less of a worry as you can hide it round the back and it's generally not a place with folk wandering about.

*Coco blacks as consistently served me the worst coffees imaginable, the cakes are not my thing at all but they are quality. Caldwell's on the other hand... If you fancy an ice-cream you won't go wrong.

Depending on direction of travel the cafe on the corner in walkerburn is the answer.

Good point. From that's direction it's the ONLY answer, walkerburn is a bit depressing* but place but the cafe is totally grand.

*Which is sad, it just needs something to inject some life back into it. There is supposed to be a pump track at some point.

Yeah I was asked about the pumptrack I think it's coming but priorities are elsewhere.

We used to go to Ramblers cafe after swimming, down from Coco Black. It's more your traditional cafe, but decent food and portions.

Ramblers is cozy kitchen now.

Local rumour mill is the ramblers and Ella's owner was a bit keen to not pay her staff and other financial indescretions.

The Della's rumour is entirely true, I've employed some of their ex-staff. They did such a poor job of running ramblers it needed the rebrand to cut association! In it's current form as Cozy Kitchen it's much improved and back to being one of the better places in Peebles.

Milne and pickles is worth a mention but it is tiny. I love their charcuterie board and the coffee is decent.

Della was neighbour of mine but recently moved away- I've no idea about her business but she was always pleasant and chatty...

Green Tree for the win in Peebles for a tasty lunch with huge portions.

And I have to agree with an earlier post, Cocoa Blacks serve terrible coffee. Milkman is the best tasting coffee in town, tiny cups though 😋

FWIW, the management has recently changed at The Peel cafe and it has improved of late - the new manager has had the dishwasher fixed, so proper plates and cutlery are finally back. Their jacket spuds with fillings are my usual choice and they’re good, but they still do fully loaded fries, burgers etc if that’s more your thing. New trails mean it can still get pretty busy at weekends though.

Cozy Kitchen is good, and as Prophet2 has said, The Green Tree does big portions if you’re starving.

A mate was there 2 weeks ago. An age to get served and 53mins for a burger to be delivered when it wasn’t particularly busy. Seems the new manager has a way to go yet

Also if you're heading through Innerleithen then Findra is now an awesome place for coffee and cake as well as a first class clothes shop

Yep, it's lovely but again. Not a lunch destination really.

Can be like that although it's rare we can't squeeze people in. Today's lunchtime was manic but I don't think we turned anyone away. Very dog friendly, best part of my day!

Hi @goodgrief

We come in to see you every now and again.

Mrsstu and myself were in with Rob the other day.
Looking after him after he'd smashed himself up.

Can recommend your sharwarma or blue cheese bagel to anyone to anyone visiting.

Cheers Stu, great to put a name to the face! Have you seen Rob this week? He re-fractured his collarbone shortly after you brought him into the café

Yeah he messaged me to say it'd moved/ refractured.
Need to drop in and see him again next week.
His dad was there for a while looking after him so thought he'd be fine.

Plan on picking him up at some point and taking him back to Tempest as a customer instead of a worker.
Pay him back for all the free beers he's given us in the past.

Wow, just checked out the Loulabelle’s menu, I shall definitely be visiting when I’m back up in autumn.

I may even manage to take @singlespeedstu up on his offer of some local guiding too.
