I’ve got both Shimano Race and Trail SPD pedals, most of my riding is XC stuff with the odd blue trail thrown in. My bike is an XC model - Spark 900 rc.

When I changed bike - from a T130c I also (after a while) swapped my trail pedals and shoes to race pedals and stiff carbon XC shoes.

Despite being the right fit they not as comfortable, is this something I will get used to / improves with time?

Is there a genuine real world benefit for using the XC shoes in terms of power transfer / efficiency for the non racing average XC type rider or would you return to trail SPDs and trail shoes?

The benefit of super stiff (carbon) soles is that there is no (or less) power lost from the shoe flexing, and the load is spread across all of the base of your foot, rather than focused around the cleat. I found mine much more comfortable to wear all day than more trail based shoes tbh.

What's uncomfortable?

Thanks mate.

My feet on the outside edge ache in the shoes, I’ve played with the tension and this has helped although the left foot aches more than the fight for some reason.

I wear full carbon shoes on the road and don’t suffer with aches.
