I'm running Burgtec Mk4 composite pedals and perfectly happy with them since I got them a few years ago.
Feel like they could do with new bushes and seals though so looked at getting the Burgtec rebuild kit and a bit surprised at the price. In Aus the only place I can find it is mail order and it costs $40 + $9 shipping. New Burgtec Mk4 pedals are only $75 so the rebuild kit seems a bit steep to say the least.
I'm not one for unnecessary waste and much prefer to repair if possible, so before I buy some new pedals and bin the perfectly serviceable ones is there a source of generic bushes and seals that make a rebuild a bit more cost effective?

Just get hold of the sizes you need and then call a local industrial bearing place, they'll be miles cheaper and probably better quality. Used to run DMR V12's on all my bikes so bought the bushing tool to service them all and the service kit was around £20 but it was only ever the bushings that wore so I found them locally for £1 each, a massive saving over the life of those pedals. Running Nukeproof composites now and so far they haven't needed any work but the they're so cheap it might not be worth servicing them!
I regularly strip, clean and degrease my burgtec pedals so I’d definitely give that a go before shelling out for a rebuild kit. As said, it’s generally the bushes that will wear before the tiny bearings.
A lot of pedals are standard 1010 bushings, I believe. They can be had for cheap (and I prefer the cheap ones to the expensive Igus ones).
It's replacing knackered seals that I always get stuck at. If anyone knows a source for Superstar Nano compatible ones?

I emailed Burgtec asking for the bushing size and they very kindly offered for me to send the pedals in for them to check over and replace what’s necessary. Unfortunately not realistic from Australia, but they weren’t to know so really nice of them.
I’ll see if they come back to me with a size but a strip down and clean is on my list for the weekend so I’ll see if that improves things.
Looking at the photo of the kit on the Burgtec website they're 1212 split bushes which are readily available.
£20 for the kit feels a bit steep when the pedals are available for c£35 online, when mine are due a rebuild I'll probably buy a new pair of pedals and keep the old ones to raid for spares (mine are already looking a little beaten up in fairness)

I agree the price of the kit feels steep. I’ll have a go at stripping and cleaning and see how that works. Some of my pins are also a bit bent from rock strikes so new pedals are looking much better value than refurbing these ones unfortunately.
I’ve done bushing replacements on my Burgtec composites, just sourced the right bushings from eBay. Bearings were fine, was dead simple to do and only cost a few £.
If you just fill them with new grease they'll probably feel great again.
(pro bodge- if you take off the end cap, fill the space with grease, and then put the end cap back in, it basically turns the whole pedal into a self-grease-gun, repeat until clean-ish grease squidges out the other end. Haven't done this on a burgtec but it's worked with every other similar flat pedal I've tried it with)
Agree it's maddening. If I could find a source for V8 classic end caps that'd be great. Not paying 25€ for a rebuild kit when I can regularly find the pedals for 28€. Managed to get a tub full of bearings for pennies as well, but the end caps still elude me.

Careful using Northwinds technique on composite pedals as it's easy to damage the threads when you put the end caps back in. Keep spinning the pedals round and tighten the caps very slowly and it helps push the grease through and put less pressure on the threads.
@mrpaul - Stu seems to have answered that above. If that link is no good just do the search for a local supplier of the same thing. IIRC I managed to lever out the old ones with a screwdriver and just press in the new ones, bit of a clean, plenty of grease and reassemble.
I think I'll treat them to some new pins soon.

Just as a quick update Burgtec have declined to give me the measurements of their bushings and pointed me in the direction of their kit. They’re saying that if I can find the correct bushings they’ll cost the same as the kit anyway 🤣

Let's not talk about freehub seals. The cheapest part of the hub, Halo and the likes don't supply. They will of course sell you a new freehub or internal seal that doesn't wear out at anywhere near the same frequency.
If you can get bushings and bearings from a local supplier outside the piss taking **** industry it's the best way!
