G'day Guys.... wonder if you have any thoughts on the problem I have just noticed on my 2015 Giant Anthem 29er. Nothing significant has been replaced on it, so the bottom bracket, pedals, crank are all original and have probably done over 3000miles now.
I noticed that there is a slight lag on the left pedal stroke and wonder if the pedal might be the problem? Or do I take it to my LBS? Its pretty sound otherwise.
What do you mean pedal lag?
Its when the pedal reaches the top and you are putting pressure on it, that you can feel some slight movement at the top before you are able to put full pressure on. Hope that makes sense?
Loose crank.
Loose pedal bearings.
Failed bottom bracket bearing.
Less likely, impingement in a joint preventing smooth movement past TDC
Check the crank pinch bolts to see if they're tight. If the crank has been loose on the axle, the splines will be knackered and you'll need a new crankset.
okay thanks...probably all above my paygrade, so LBS it is.

Really?
Hold either crank, give them a bit of a waggle see if you can detect any movement between either arm, they should feel firm and rigidly connected, pretty much the same with the pedals. It's worth at least knowing what's loose and what isn't.
It's your left hip. Get a replacement asap
