[Closed] Peaks. Which descents/singletrack are clear?

I walked up Jacobs ladder on Wednesday, that's rideable

ive just started a similar thread,will be gutted if peaks is still covered in snow.

All of it towards edale? IF so might do the hayfield-jacobs-mam-rushup-edale on sunday am

Still around on the tops in sheltered places, not been over that way since last weekend but it was very deep in the lanes. Still no reason not to head over and have fun in the slush and mud. 😀

It's only bad where it's drifted but even then it's fairly solid, go, have fun. I had a great couple of days up there

Hagg farm is normal, Lockerbrook is interesting but mostly rideable and today I quit just after the top gate heading toward WLT from the slabs. Might be ok from Cutthroat though.

Shifter where did you start? Did you include beast?

Started at Fairholmes, didn't do Beast but chatted with a lad who did - he said there was a lot of refrozen melt that made it sheet ice! I went up Screaming Mile which was about 60% rideable, the very top had similar ice though.

Lockerbrook is interesting but mostly rideable

I rode the loop from Whaley Bridge over up the Goyt, over to Buxton and back the other day and it was about 80% rideable. And the stuff over Marple way should be okay too. Going exploring tomorrow 🙂

Rushup Edge and the Roych Clough track still mostly blocked - that update is from about 2hrs ago.

I don't get why people don't just go and ride stuff. We had an ace day in the sunshine around Hayfield riding trails which you probably don't know, but here's the thing: stuff which is open tends to be clear or mostly clear, stuff that sits either by a wall or in a trough tends to harbour snow and mostly isn't clear.

It's not rocket science, based on past snowy winters, trails that collects snow includes the Roych and Jacob's, also the Pennine Bridleway below Lantern Pike, which runs next to a wall. They're all walled and they fill up with snow when it's blown in the wind and falls into the lee of the wall. Oh, and the top of Chinley Churn as well, same reason.

The Shooting Cabin track across Middle Moor is, on the other hand, mostly open and the only bits where it's banked out with snow are the obvious ones which run next to stone walls and you can get round them anyway.

Brilliant day today, finally felt like spring and hurrah for the lemon drizzle cake at Rosie's caff in Hayfield 🙂

Hayfields ok but not fantastic. Stopped doing Hayfield linked loops a few years ago.

Im not into grinding through drifts or riding ontop of snow. Its ****ing dull. My favourite is flow.

I'll ride elsewhere.

Just come back from peaks yesterday. Lower side of Jacobs is covered in Snow, Jaggers Clough is covered in snow, in fact most of my ride was covered in snow.

Totally agree. We're Hayfield regulars (live 2 mins away) and the walled trailed are taking a long time to thaw. We swapped the bikes for walking boots yesterday and headed over Chinley Churn towards Peep-O-Day and the trails were quite varied, bone dry in places yet instantly following by a 3 foot snow drift! Bonkers. Over Hill Road that goes from Birch Vale to over to Chinley is completely covered in snow half way up, lot of of fun though if that's your thing.

The Tifin in Rosie's is great!

Banks. There is plenty of flow in the UK. Maybe not the Peaks but plenty of natural elsewhere.

Looking up from the valley nothing much seems to have changed this week. Could be different on the ground but I've not ventured up on the hills

Just ridden around the Linacre/Holymoorside loop in Chesterfield (I know, not quite the Peaks - but close enough) and we've had to climb through 3-4 foot drifts on some of route. Other parts are just a boggy mess. But then some are dry - almost to the point of being dusty.

Just ridden Fairholmes out and back. All 100% clear except Gores DH. So thats Beast, Hagg farm, etc etc all good 8)

I didnt do potato but all that side of the hill was good I.e almost dusty. IF potato alley is bad beast is a good alternative.

Which one is screaming mile? Gores? If its Gores then as soon as you get into the trees its wtf where did this snow come from?!!

Screaming Mile = Lockerbrook. I don't know Gores (well, I probably do, but I must have another name for it!)

Edit: actually I might be wrong. Gores = Lockerbrook, Screaming Mile = Landrover Track?!

Screaming mile = the descent at Hagg farm Junction in opposite direction to Hagg Farm descent. It leads down to edge of LB...
