I'm meeting up with a mate in a months time - probably somewhere in the Peaks (as its halfway Teeside/ Bham). He doesn't ride off road, does tri and that sort of stuff 🙄
I would like to cover about 60 miles with lunch somewhere in between.
Can you recommend a scenic route without heavy traffic?
I had a peek on Strava but Snake Pass comes up a lot which I know gets busy. I don't know which other routes would be better.
Cheers
From Sheffield you could go rivelin valley, out to ladybower, bamford, Edale, mam nick, down winnats to Castleton, hathersage, grindleford, up froggatt, drop back towards hathersage, up to burbage, along ringinglow road back to Sheffield.
Scenic hilly loop and not too busy all things considered (ride lot of it regularly)
Get to the Staffordshire Moorlands. There's some cracking road riding on roads that I've never seen busy. If you're coming on a Sunday you might be able to tag on with my local club.
Thanks guys. Will check out the Peaks route. I looked at Staffs as the roads look ideal, its just a bit further for my mate to travel, was looking for something equitable.
The best part of the Peak District is in Staffordshire 🙂
Seriously, as a Staffordshire resident I like to remind people that the Peak District is not just Derbyshire. There's a huge and very impressive swathe of the Peak in Staffordshire. Why don't you do a return trip to the Staffordshire Moorlands Peak District from the NE Peak? Best of both Worlds.
Agree with the above. I quite often ride out from Leek through the back roads to the top of the Roaches and then drop over the other side and climb back up through Flash and over towards Buxton. You can then climb back out on the Whaley bridge road and drop into the Goyt Valley and climb up to the cat n fiddle. Options then as to whether you drop down towards Mac or Bollington and then up blaze or the brickworks and then cut cross country back towards Leek or just ride back across behind Macc Forrest
As above loads of quite roads and some lung buster climbs and fast descents
Agree - I used to ride to Leak/ Buxton from Manc when I lived there 20 years ago. Will see what my mate considers a reasonable trip.
If you met at Junction 30 of the M1 you could ride in that way. Renishaw, Eckington, Dronfield to Owler Bar then explore from there. It's usually about a 60 mile round trip, plenty of cafe's and pubs along the way too!
It's urban for the first 10 miles as it's the S.E. suburbs of Sheffield but they're not what i'd call busy roads.
Where are you from again Dan?
I reckon you should look at the White Peak, lots of quiet lanes that barely touch main roads, my wife and I easily put together 30+ mile routes, would be simple for you to get a 1" OS map (Buxton, Matlock, Dovedale OS Landranger 119) and and make your own route to suit your needs
