So, after a long break there's going to be another Peaks Pootle on December 1st, starting at 10am in either the Hope, Derwent or Edale Valleys. I'll decide that and the route later.
As always, it'll be a 15mile ish ride around some trails in the Dark Peak with the emphasis on the social side of things, so....
1) if you're fast, hold the gates and count the folks through
2) if you're slow - have something to talk about with the other 20 people with you
3) bring cake
Pootles aren't a typical 'group ride'. I started them 'cos I hated being the person at the back. I wanted a group ride for the people at the back. There aren't any people at the back in a pootle.
Typical pootle traditions shall be upheld i.e. there will be cake, there will be banter, and there will be a pint after in a pleasant pub to warm those toes!
It's been a while, but what can i say, i've missed doing it.
And i did promise.
Previous cold pootles:
Yay! Nice one. 🙂
Books date in diary thinks of cake
I shall bring a selction
Wooooooo, can't wait.
Hopefully hope can sort my rear wheel before then.
Noooooo I wont be able to come out to play 🙁 🙁 have a great pootle people
Right the important stuff first:
What t***s for pootling and
Carrot cake or brownies?
There is racing that weekend but it would be good to attend one of these before my 51st year ends.
I don't think we've had carrot cake on a Pootle before....
I'm in
We have, however, had hora on many rides before (laydeez)
Im at bike park wales that day 🙁 will come to the next one tho.
I'm in
But are you joining the Pootle?
Badoom-Tish
Sounds like a plan 🙂
🙂
in
Brill, have applied for leave.
Ooh, I might try and make this - and annoy everyone in real life, instead of behind a keyboard 😉
I'm actually quite sociable really 🙂
we'll see. Guaranteeing nowt.
I'm not on shift, so should be able to get there.
I'll try and come to this, be nice to not be wobbling around on my own at the back for a change!
I'll come! Been looking for something a bit more social!
I'm in. Can't wait!
I might make an appearance. Hardly done any riding this year...
Will check the kitchen calendar. Hopefully me n the missus can make this. Will probably bring choccy Guinness cake.
Yay - Pootle!!
I'll be there, so long as my body is up to it
Rachel
I'm planning two routes - one for if the ground's frozen, one for if it's boggy.
And of course there'll be a collection for mountain rescue too as usual. Pootles have raised a modest £120ish so far from the three pootles we've collected at.
I'll have a new CX bike to try out by then! 🙂
I'd love to. Hardly done any riding in the peaks. I may bring a bike with funny size wheels. That'll be something to 'discuss'! That and beetroot cake. Trust me on that!
Yay. I'm off work that day too. Rugby permitting I'd love to come along.
On the basis of -
I may well give the new bike a proper debut.Pootles aren't a typical 'group ride'. I started them 'cos I hated being the person at the back. I wanted a group ride for the people at the back. There aren't any people at the back in a pootle.
What ty....................oh, sorry.
I'll be there. Potential last ride before having my ass cut off so will be making the most of it.
You can be honorary rear gunner Morty
Have u got a general postcode so u can see what time I'd have to get up at to be there for 10am?
I'll be there. Potential last ride before having my ass cut off so will be making the most of it.
Flash grenade Sir? Make the process quicker
S33 6aa is pretty central for the options I'm considering
Hoping to make this, but at a wedding the day before.
You know full well that won't matter Dawson. I've led these massively hungover before. 😀
I should be there, looking forward to it already!
Cheers for the postcode, nearly 3 hrs away, will wait for the forecast nearer the time before deciding
Flash grenade Sir? Make the process quicker
Think the first bit is quite quick anyway, its the waiting for the hole to heal after that takes the time.
I'll be rear gunner as normal Pook!!
I think I might actually make the trek over from Aberystwyth to do this... The last one I rode (in 2010) was great. Now... which bike to choose for a Peaks Pootle, hmmmmm...?
Mr Pook, is this singlespeed country?
Last I remember riding up there was a pootle along the Tissington Trail.... way back in 97 😳
@bikebuoy - I live in PootleLand and that's all I have been riding for nearly 3 years - it hurts a lot but it can be done.
EDIT: and it's rigid.
Skiprat I look forward to the conversation/company at the rear
(Can we stop talking about rears now) 😉
Ta for the info, I'll stick a 21t on the rear and gurn a bit then 😉
Ashbournes a bit too far to stay overnight isn't it?
Apologies people but if you think you're on rear gunner duties, then you reckoned without one thing! Me! 🙂
Got my passport and my jabs, and I'll be heading over from the north! Yay! Might even get the big bouncy bike out so I'll be even slower than usual.
Bloody hell!
Might well tag along
@bikebuoy - about half an hour's drive away on a clear road, could be a bit longer depending upon where Pookles chooses to meet.
Might bring the SS to this if there are going to be a few others
B&b booked in Ashbourne ( a place I know very well and wanted to revisit for some time) 😀
Pootle'idge 8)
Morton - can I blag a lift?
Permission granted! Now bouncy slow fast down, rigid gears or rigid single speed? never taken the single speed to the peak, will have to find a front brake though.
We'll for the route I expect we'll be doing, some bits will suit a bouncy bike, other bits will suit a rigid....
Funny wheel sizes on the other hand.....
Do i have to go? 😉
Yes. And you have to bring cake and buy me a pint.
Hopefully will be there... !
Happy to do assistant to the assistant guide and gates!!
Sounds like a blast, should be able to make a sweaty, wheezing back marker. 😐
Ss attention whoring tazmanian devil up for it...and maybe a bike a ride
Hopefully be up for this
I'll set the 3 year old daughter to work with cake mix, forum will be very quiet on 2nd Dec 😈
MartynS - ditch the tubeless 😉
Rocks dont like tubeless. Thorns do..
45 mins from mine so should be able to make it.
The other half is otherwise engaged otherwise she'd have come with me for this.
Looks like I can make this one too
Crikey, some old faces coming back to the pootles!
looks like I'll either be on the rigid 29er SS or the tandem - we'll see how Mrs NBT's arm is looking before making a decision
Jane could always meet us in the pub regardless Jules
This is on the day before I go back to work 9 weeks after surgery, and 2 years of getting fatter, crapper and weaker. I may come along just as a contender for the slowest rider. 🙂
If a pootle is similar to a bimble ( the midlands equivalent) I'm in!.......very sedately
are the pootles that for from the midlands?
For anyone worried about holding up the rear don't worry, I guarantee I'm slower and less fitter, plus I only have a big bouncy bike which slows me down even more.
that beast is a HELL of a track.
If anyone is coming over from Manchester/Stockport way and wants to car share drop me a mail (address in profile).
Pop will you bring a muzzle and lead to make sure I play well with normal folk and don't bite? 🙂
Kevin, Abigale and me will be up for it. Katie wont be able to make it.
I'm going to do my best to be there. Will the route be tandem friendly?Jane could always meet us in the pub regardless Jules
Taz I found castration is a good way of calming over exuberance in young pups - much better than a muzzle!
I'm trying to keep it weather proof Jane so there might be some rocks
Finally, I can actually make a Pootle event YEEEHAAAA.
I plan to bake large quantities of mini-Victoria sponges (cup genre), iced; finished with either a Jelly-Tot, Smartie or other - open to suggestions/mini-poll?
They'll be carried throughout the day, in case of emergency 🙄 😆
Is this the meet-up that's kind of a singles ride?
Can I come, even if I never eat cake or any other form of confectionery?
